Retired Smith College Professor and retired Librarian spend half the year (July- December) in our home in Massachusetts and half the year (January-June) in Austin, Texas. Williamsburg is a town of 2,500 people, founded in 1771. Our property shares a border with the town's elementary school, which our three children attended. Our 1878 farmhouse has been our family home for 45 years. We think it's a lovely combination of old and new. Sitting on a rise above the village, one has both privacy and the convenience of a short walk to the historic village center where one can find a great small grocery, a 5-star library, local bank and post office as well as a much beloved general store. The town also sports a tavern, a friendly breakfast/lunch restaurant, and a very popular food truck featuring baby-back ribs (unfortunately, closed in the winter). Our property backs up to the Petticoat Hill Reservation-a Forest with miles of walking trails. Route 9 provides quick access to Northampton nine miles down the road and to Amherst 14 miles away. Our front porch has a great view of the hills beyond the small village. Our home has reliable high-speed internet access and great streaming for viewing. The large living room is perfect for relaxing, or entertaining friends. The fireplace has been converted to hold a wood burning stove which makes it especially cozy during the winter. The sunroom holds a 1890's Glenwood cook stove which can be used for warmth or is simply lovely to look at. Lots of plants provide greenery all year round. We usually have meals here at a round oak table. The kitchen is equipped with all necessary appliances and cooking gear. A small bathroom with a shower is just off the kitchen. Also off the kitchen at the front of the house is a large pantry with a washer and dryer and at the back of the house a small family room with a television. From the living room one enters the hallway to go upstairs. A bedroom with a queen-sized bed as well as a desk and printer is at the bottom of the stairs. Upstairs, the main bedroom has a half bath and closet, as well as a queen-size bed. A second bedroom at the end of the hallway holds a closet and a full-size brass bed as well as a twin bed. Across the hall from the main bedroom is a small office and then the main bath - large, tiled bath with a shower and jacuzzi tub. We are looking for tenants who will care for our home and enjoy it as we do.
