Three Breeze: A country farmhouse dating back to the 18th Century

A RELAXING COUNTRY HOLIDAY NEAR ROME IN THE SECLUDED ENVIRONMENT OF THE SABINA HILLS

Country holiday house near Rome

Large farm style home with 4 bedrooms (sleeps 8-10).

Orchard, garden, BBQ facilities, fully equipped and furnished with antiques

Set in the beautiful Sabina hills, 56 km north of Rome,
well connected by train and motorway

Originally an 18th century farmhouse, gradually extended over time, meticulous upkeep of this house has retained the splendid character of the old farmers’ dwelling. On the hilltop, situated among orchards and olives, with wonderful and peaceful views around, only ten minutes’ drive from the train which takes you to Rome in 40 minutes. Garden and orchard, plus a fantastic secluded terrace ideal for meditation, reading and sunbathing, guarantee the perfect relaxing holiday. Great country walks all around and trekss across the surrounding mountains for the sport inclined, plenty of gorgeous mediaeval villages in the neighborhood. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms, sleeps 8. Also within short pleasant drives of Umbria and the Franciscan places.
Sunsets are breathtaking, whether gazing at the country from the terrace with a cold drink and local olives, or from the inside, as if admiring a masterpiece of painting.
In the house, the beamed ceiling together with old furniture and antiques, vintage accessories and equipment, add to the character and fascination of the residence.
The mediaeval villages of Poggio Catino and Catino, home of the great monk Gregorio da Catino, prior of the famous Farfa abbey, situated 2.5 km away on the mountain side, east of the house, while the beautiful mediaeval walled town of Casperia is located on a hilltop, 7 km north of the house. Casperia has a lovely romanesque belltower at the duomo, and one of the most beautiful “presepe”, a nativity set in the environment of the Casperia town.
The tiny village of Cantalupo in Sabina (3 km northwest), home of the “canteloupe” mellons imported here from the first Christian missions in the Americas, displays on its hilltop the deteriorating but extremely rich country residence of Cardinal Cesi, created in the 16th century from an existing fortress, with its impressive porched facade by the Vignola school. The inside of this residence, unfortunately not available for visits, is completely and fantastically frescoed with grotesque scenes by the Zuccari brothers.
The colours of the surrounding country landscape towards the west remind one of the impressionist paintings, while woods and mountains are perfect for long treks or mushroom picking. Relaxing walks, bicycle and horse riding along the many paths or along the Tiber river, bird watching in the nearby Nazzano-Tevere-Farfa natural reserve, as well as angling on the Farfa river or pike fishing in the Tiber are exciting possibilities to enjoy the beauty of the Sabina hills. Excellent food to be purchased directly from the many small farms around, small, inexpensive but excellent “trattorie”, or just tasting local bread with the famous Sabina cold pressed olive oil and a glass of wine complete your sense of well being.
Leisure time can be dedicated to rest, sunbathing, sipping drinks or having dinner in the patio at sunset; or, if you wish to try local recipes, cooking on the charcoals or in the large, old wood oven where bread for the whole neighborhood used to be baked for centuries on Sundays.
At night, in late spring and beginning of summer, fireflies will perform their love dances for your amazement, while you smell the fragrance of roses and orange flowers and taste ripe mulberries and cherries.
A strong, naive faith, quaint beliefs and superstitions, as well as the interest of the ancient farmers in nice looking shapes is witnessed by the simple forms of art that have been found or reconstructed in and around the house.
