Secluded Retreat on Newfound Lake at Gateway to the White Mountains of NH -- Near Dartmouth and Plymouth State U
If you are seeking a haven of rest at water's edge, look no further. We are delighted to offer our colleagues and visitors not just a piece of "shoreline" on beautiful Newfound Lake, but a place of peace and sanctuary. Given 400' of private shoreline, location on the end of a private drive, and a shared border with the Audubon nature preserve, quiet seclusion is an enduring quality of our family's waterfront home. With the warmth and charm of a 50's lake "cottage," modern amenities such as WIFI help span the decades, but only so much as to give a respectful nod to the 21st century. Inspiring natural beauty, the lure of the White Mountains, and endless outdoor activities will make you wish email never existed and your sabbatical would never end. Artists and writers, honeymooners and retirees, have long enjoyed the rejuvenation of an extended stay here. This sabbatical year, why not let it be you?
The home is about 15 minutes from Plymouth State University, and about 45 minutes from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.
Hiking trails (such as the AT!) abound, and ski slopes are within 5 minutes of the home, and full-service resorts (Waterville Valley, Cannon Mountain) are within 45 minutes.
Spring: Fiddle-head ferns, bird-watching, day-trips.
Summer: Water skiing on cleanest lake in New England, cookouts, camping, badminton in the middle of a meadow of wildflowers, gardening.
Fall: World-class leaf-peeping, dining, canoeing, boating, antiquing.
Winter: Ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, and snow-machining are as close as the back door to the home.
Robert Frost's farm in Franconia is 40 minutes away.
New England summers range from balmy to cool--always an escape from the heat of the urban/suburban rat-race. Summer and fall rentals generally run by the week, from a low of 1900.00 to a high of 2900.00/wk. All utilities are included in weekly rentals.
Winters are both stunningly beautiful and cold. While the monthly rental amount is extremely affordable, one must take into consideration the utilities, which are not included in spring and winter rentals that tend to run on a monthly basis. This home's primary heating system is oil-powered radiant-floor heating, with a secondary electric wall-register heating system. There is also a fireplace, but firewood would not be included in the rental agreement. However, we can help secure a steady supply for you.
Monthly rentals include the following utilities: land-line phone (for local calls), garbage removal, snow plowing, and high-speed wireless internet.
Utilities that are not included in monthly rentals are the following: heating oil, electricity, firewood.
Realistically, renters can expect mid-winter monthly utilities to equal about 500-600.00 USD.
