Beautifully renovated detached house in the foothills of the French Pyrennees.
The house is located on the edge of the village of Fillols, a very pretty and unspoilt French Catalonian village in the foothills of Mont Canigou (known as the 'sacred mountain of the Catalan people'). It has an 'otherwordly' feel while being close to all amenities. 2 bars, 1 with a rustic but excellent restaurant can be found on the village square 3 mins. walk away. Shops, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, swimming pool, equestrian centre and casino are 5 mins. drive away in Vernet les Bains. From nearby, you can take a 4x4 to Mount Canugou, the view from the top of which Rudyard Kipling described as the most beautiful in the world. The larger town of Prades is less 15 mins drive. It has an expansive market on Tuesdays and hosts the world-famous Pablo Casals music festival in July/August which attracts top class international musicians. Excellent shopping in Perpignan (45 mins) The seaside resorts just beyond Perpignan feature waterparks (Aqualand), excellent adventure parks, go-karting and many other activities. The Universities of Perpignan and Montpellier are within easy reach while the new fast train service (opening 2012) means that Barcelona is reachable in 46 minutes from Perpignan. The house itself is spacious and airy, and has been totally renovated to a high standard. We ourselves have used it as a retreat while writing books and the house is designed to provide comfort and peace without being isolated from the local community. The house has a mezzanine level which is suitable for use either as a fourth bedroom or a study.
Our extensive experience of living and staying in the region means that we are able to provide prospective visitors with lots of useful information and advice about the practical aspects of an extended stay.
