Traditional Victorian flat in Central Edinburgh
Our traditional Victorian tenement flat in Central Edinburgh is cozy and comfy. It's conveniently located and makes a great base for exploring the city (including the Edinburgh Festival in August and the Winter Wonderland/Hogmanay!) We particularly enjoy the local amenities and the fact that we don't need our car to get around.
There are two good-sized bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other a child's bedroom with bunk beds (2 bunks). We also have a baby's travel bed and other baby gear and toys, if needed. High ceilings throughout. The bathroom, laundry room, and kitchen have all the usual appliances (full tub and shower, dishwasher, washer and dryer, oven, microwave, toaster, etc.) Cable TV, wireless broadband. Entry phone. Shared garden downstairs.
We always provide our house guests with a thorough house manual, including information on how to find everything they need in the flat and work all the appliances, bus route info, tourist info, and tips on good places to eat and shop.
THE AREA
Our neighborhood is located near the top of Easter Road, a bustling urban area that's an easy walking distance from many tourist attractions, including:
* Calton Hill (great for walks, with the best views in the city!)
* Holyrood Palace
* Arthur's Seat/Holyrood Park
* Dynamic Earth
* Scottish Parliament
* The Royal Mile/Old Town
* Princes Street and New Town
Although Edinburgh isn't very big and walking around is easy, our flat is particularly well-located for bus service all over the city, with nearby stops for several major bus routes providing extremely easy, frequent, and convenient access to the aforementioned attractions, as well as to Leith, the beach at Portobello, the Zoo, all major museums, etc. You can visit the Lothian Buses website and look at the routes for all the buses that are at our doorstep (1, 35) or just around the corner: (26, 4, 44, 5, 15, 45, 19, 34). The service is really great.
Our flat is a five-minute taxi ride from the train station, where there is an airport shuttle drop-off.
Nearby amenities (located seconds or minutes away in this busy urban neighborhood) include a French bakery, a pharmacy, gift shops, coffee shops/cafes, a Scotmid grocery store, a specialty wine shop, a divine handmade chocolate shop, cash machines, an internet cafe, and a hillside area (Calton Hill) with walking/jogging trails. You may also be interested in the community centre around the corner, which offers a large array of drop-in dance, yoga, and other classes for adults and children.
Just around the corner, one passes a children's play park and a popular local cafe within a two-minute walk. Five more minutes' walk to busy Elm Row/Leith Walk will lead you to world-famous Italian deli Valvona and Crolla, fab neighborhood pub/restaurant Joseph Pearce's, theaters, restaurants, a multiscreen cinema at the Omni Centre, and many other amenities.
