This is a beautiful, furnished two bedroom, plus office or studio, with one and a half bath house with an ergonomic bath tub with shower over. There is a sizable walk-in closet with built in shelving and drawers in the master bedroom, plus wood beams, gas fire place. The second bedroom has a domed 'boveda' ceiling and a full wall of built in closet, drawers and cupboards. Throughout the house there are skylights and ceiling fans. There is a king and double bed, TV, microwave oven, 6 burner range, a side by side refrigerator freezer, a handy kitchen pantry and lots of windows and natural light.

The house is on the garden level, except for the studio/office, which is upstairs, with the wonderful terrace and expansive views. There is a gas fireplace in the living room and in the master bedroom. This house has a front yard and a smaller back patio with garden area, and the rooftop terrace is fantastic for sun, views, and pot gardening.

The compound consists of 2 one bedroom apartments and this, the main house, built around a courtyard and old Mesquite tree.

We have open-air markets in the neighborhood on Mondays and Saturdays, but you may prefer to hop on a bus and go to the Saturday Organic Farmer's Market. There is a really good pizza restaurant 3 blocks away, and the street food on market day is terrific. There are little mom and pop stores on every block where you can pick up a carton of milk, cheese, fruit, etc. This is a typical Mexican neighborhood, with frequent bus service just half a block away.

We like the serenity of being a bit outside of the action, as San Miguel is pretty noisy. Our neighborhood is quieter, and more conducive to thoughtful work, focus and concentration on projects. Within a few minutes, when wanted, one can be in the middle of all the activity of Centro Historico by taking a bus, taxi, or by walking.
We are about a mile from "El Centro".

San Miguel de Allende is filled with charm, culture, beauty, history and lovely people. The ex-pat community accounts for approximately 10% of the population. It has long been known for being an active artist's colony.

There is theater, music, (Latin, Rock, Tango, Classical, Baroque, Chamber, etc.), film, zillions of restaurants, an English/Spanish library that will issue you a card during your stay, movies that serve popcorn and a drink...margaritas, beer, lemonade, wine...And just outside of town you will find hot springs, spas, and wonderful country restaurants.

It is FUN in San Miguel, Economical, and interesting.

Want to help people in need: There are lots of opportunities to help out, with orphanages, feed the hungry, educational programs, etc. There are also lots of opportunities to study Spanish and take art classes as well. And for the truly lazy, just sit in the Jardin (central garden) and people-watch day or evening and listen to the various mariachi bands.

Rent includes:
You will have a well-supplied kitchen, bed linens, and pretty much whatever you need for basic living and good cooking. WiFi, water, Gas, Electricity, included with the caveat that you must be conservative, especially with electricity. Cable TV is available at cost.

Please feel free to smoke outside only. Talk to me about having your pet. PS: the map feature does not work properly for my town or location, but if you search for San Miguel de Allende, then get real close, and go to the North end of town. Follow Calzada de la Aurora until it ends and you then take Benito Juarez to the very first cross street. That is my street. About half a block in #17 is the property. The colonia name is Santa Cecilia.

If you have a car, it is possible that a neighbor will rent his parking space (uncovered but off-street). For a fee he will deliver your car to you every morning and return it to parking in the evening. Or you may park on the street in front of the house.

If you see this posting, and you have an apartment or house anywhere in Europe or Oaxaca, Mexico, you would like to trade, please talk to me. I'm interested in spending time in Europe and in Oaxaca in 2013.

Some of the furnishings and art work have changed since we took pictures. We have a king bed, a double bed, and you can use the double air mattress and couch for additional people.

Again, The map feature does not work for this site. (and other sites) If you look at the dot where the house is said to be, on the map here, look above it to the very first street you could possibly turn right on. THAT is my street! That is where Colonia Santa Cecilia is, they have it typed in the wrong spot.

About I am a native of California, and lived there all my life until I retired here to San Miguel de Allende. I have two wonderful grown children and two darling grandchildren. My daughter and son both attended UCB and have very fine lives as a film editor, and a geologist. I was the first of my mother's 2nd gen Irish immigrant family to attend college. (I am not, however, an academic.) My father's family are some of the oldest settlers in the Eastern states. My reason for moving to San Miguel de Allende (SMA) was to pursue some of the dreams and need for adventure that were somehow left behind in the busy work-world of my younger life. There is time to go back to art. The pace can be slower. I can travel, live in an incredibly welcoming, friendly environment rich with indigenous culture, as well as modern theater, music, dance, and learning opportunities. In short, I feel as if I am in a special second youth! There are friends to play with again, now that the rat race has been left behind, for so many of us! I feel blessed here. I love having a stream of good people coming through my life because of the guest houses I built with my own house. Again and again, I have a new opportunity to see SMA through new eyes. I can truly say, living here, "Life is good". I am eager to travel Europe again, and if any reading this has an apartment or home of any size in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Greece, Turkey, Prague, and would like to exchange property for a time, or would like to exchange hospitality, (visits while home) I am open to that all. I would also be happy to house and pet sit in any of these places, and take excellent care of your home, plants, pets.
