A beautiful large and peaceful country house in southern Portugal. The owners are continuing a sabbatical at Duke University, NC.
We have 10 acres wilderness and garden, including huge cork oaks and wildflowers, fruit trees (figs, citrus, soft fruit, exotics, apples etc) and a river flowing down from the Algarve's highest mountain, with abundant natural vegetation and wildlife.
The house has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, large kitchen/dining room with spectacular views over the mountains, several other recreation/study rooms, garden room, office, playroom, garage and ample parking. There is also a huge games/music room. Nearly all rooms have access to the garden directly.
We are 25 minutes from picturesque traditional market town of Monchique with most essential services, 40 minutes from vibrant city of Portimão on south coast (and some of the world's best golf courses), and 25 minutes from glorious and unspoiled west coast beaches. Would suit person(s) wanting a peaceful refuge or as a base to explore western Europe. Portuguese not essential, many service providers and local people speak English, but local lessons are available also.
Our local airport is Faro (90 minutes drive) and direct cheap flights are available into Faro from most European capitals.
The house is fully furnished.
Rental: Low rent of US$1200 per month, excluding utilities, in return for care of two pet (outdoor) dogs and some housekeeping duties. Logs from local Olive, Cork Oak and Medronho trees are included for efficient modern log-fires located in both sitting rooms, also providing heat for bedrooms – usually required in winter (Nov – March).
Portugal is a safe, civilised and family-friendly country, and the pace of life is very relaxed.
