Sunny 2-bedroom apartment overlooking canal between Accademia and Guggenheim

This is a beautiful, elegantly furnished apartment on the third floor (American) of a beautiful corner palace overlooking the Canale di San Vio, in one of Venice's most sought-after neighbourhoods, few minutes away from the Accademia and the Guggenheim Collection, on the same Fondamenta as Palazzo Cini, between the Grand Canal and the Zattere, close to shops and excellent restaurants, including one of the best cicchetti bars of the entire city. With windows on three sides, the apartment is also extremely airy and full of sunlight.

The apartment has lots of period features: rare Venetian marble flooring, beautiful classic furniture and paintings, rare old photographs. It is accessed by its own dedicated door and short staircase (no more than 20 steps). A large entrance hall leads to a spacious and light living room with two windows with Juliet balconies overlooking the Canale di San Vio. A large dine-in kitchen has a dining table comfortably seating 8 people. The flat has two double-bedrooms (one of which overlooks the canal) and a bathroom with bathtub/shower. There is no telephone landline but, if required, we will provide you with a USB-device to get online from your own laptop.

The museums are only a five minutes' walk away, yet the area is tranquil, ideal for relaxation or as a writing retreat. It is also serviced by excellent shops, it has a nearby supermarket, and a small fish and vegetable market (about 10 minutes' walk, in Campo Santa Margherita). The ferry (vaporetto) stops of the Accademia and the Zattere are round the corner.

The rent is negotiable for stays longer than two weeks. For short stays at Christmas, Carnival, the Festival del Cinema period (late-August/early September), and the Redentore weekend in July, the weekly charge will be 1000.

Cleaning can be arranged on demand and at extra cost.

Situated in a wonderful area, this apartment boasts the most interesting terrazzo marble floors in the city, a good hot modern shower, a lovely big kitchen, and a splendid view of the canal from the living room and main bedroom. Joined by my coauthor for one week to work on our forthcoming novel set in Renaissance Venice, I stayed on for an entire month and didn't want to leave! The apartment didn't have wireless, but we were given internet access with a USB key which worked beautifully. A stone's throw from the Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim, the apartment is close to everything but just enough off the beaten track to give the feeling of living like a real Venetian. Easy access to San Marco and beyond via vaporetto, the Accademia Bridge or better yet, the traghetto (gondola ferry) located just before the Salute church. The grocery store was a short walk away along the Zattere - a beautiful walk anytime but especially at sunset. Be sure to stop on your way back at the marvelous Al Bottegon for a before dinner Cichetti and Spritz - a great place to buy wine too. For morning coffee, be sure to stop at Gino's which has to be the friendliest place for coffee in all of Venice. Thank you for having us stay at your apartment. We had the most wonderful time and the location couldn't have been better. In some small way it felt like we were part of the daily life in Venice and less like tourists. The terrazzo floors, antiques and the view, shopping and cooking in the kitchen added to this feeling.
