Gracious, Light, 1 Bd. Shanghai Apt in Historic French Concession 1930s Residence
My apartment is situated in Shanghai's historic French Concession, in a tree-lined, gracious residential oasis of low-storey 1930s & 40s apartments interspersed with private villas, consulates, and lane homes.
The elegant, meticulously cared for apartment was recently remodeled to accentuate its original beauty. It is naturally light, open and airy, and has high ceilings, antique furniture, original hardwood floors and Chinese silk carpets.
The bright living room is a large, open rectangle with windows at both ends. A sitting area with a large plush sofa and armchair is at one end, and a beautifully painted Chinese desk area at the other.
The thoroughly U.S.-style kitchen has marble floor and counters, hand-crafted wood and glass cabinets, and plenty of modern conveniences such as an Italian stove-top/oven, built-in fridge, dishwasher, juicer, blender, etc.
The light and serene bathroom also has white marble throughout as well as a new tub, sink, antiqued cupboards and light fixtures.
The bedroom has a queen bed, plenty of windows, is bright, spacious and very comfortable.
Other amenities include washer/dryer, radiant heat (under marble floors in kitchen and bath), air conditioning, wireless ADSL, internet, printer, and a wireless multi-room sound system for iPod.
The location is ideal. A 5 min. bike ride from the main Shanghai library, the apartment is within convenient walking or biking distance to the city's preferred shopping, restaurant and nightlife area.
As a Shanghai-based academic, between semesters I travel outside China. Sometimes I sublet my well-loved and scrupulously cared for apartment to Shanghai visitors. All have been very happy (references available) to land in Shanghai in a home so aesthetically pleasing and so perfectly suited to immediately making the most of their limited time in the city.
Rent is US$600/week for the first 3 weeks, US$525 each week thereafter, with a 3 week minimum. The rent includes 2X weekly housekeeper, all utilities, local phone and internet. Please note my home is smoke-free.
