House for Rent in Japan (Tokyo area)

Our house in Yokohama will be available for rent from late October 2013 to the end of May or early June 2014. It is a two-story, three bedroom (3 LDK) individual house (ikkenya) located in Aoba-ku in Yokohama, near Aobadai Station on the Den'entoshi Line. It is a very quiet neighborhood, with farm fields and a river nearby, yet also has lots of shopping venues and is convenient to Tokyo, Yokohama and Kawasaki (Aobadai is 25 minutes by train from Shibuya). The house is fully furnished, with some goodies like satellite TV and internet.

We are asking 100,000 yen in rent, plus a security deposit from which utilities will be subtracted (almost all utilities are being paid automatically from our bank account). We usually ask for about 2 to 2.5 months worth of rent for the security deposit. We would prefer a single person or a couple since the house is not really made for sharing between two people. There are three bedrooms, with one being a Japanese tatami room, one a child's bedroom, and one a study/bedroom. We have rented in the past to families with children.

Pretty much everything you need is furnished: futons, kitchen utensils/pots/dishes, TV, DVD player, satellite TV, washer and dryer, air conditioning, heater, phone/fax, large (for Japan) oven, fridge, stove, desk, dining table, sofa, kotatsu, etc. etc. We are planning to re-do the bath in summer 2013.

The house is a small wooden house about 30 years old which we bought and remodeled in 2003. It is set back from the road and is surrounded by houses, but the place is very quiet and the house gets lots of sun. We are about a 6-10 minute bus ride from the station (renters can also use our bike), and one can easily reach Shibuya within 45 minutes of leaving the house. There are dozens of universities within convenient commuting distance.

Aobadai is frankly the best place to go shopping around here, having stores ranging from luxury shops to discount stores. There are also restaurants of many kinds. This neighborhood is known as one of the most upscale ones in the Tokyo area, but there are plenty of options if you live on a budget. We prepare a "manual" for residents that introduces the neighborhood and explains the house (helping those who do not know Japanese).

We ideally are looking for someone who can take the house for most of the time we are gone. It will only be when we know for sure that there is no such person that we will try to rent it out to people for shorter periods of time. Dates are thus somewhat negotiable.
