My wife and I are just concluding a six week stay at the Carcassonne penthouse, and we really have nothing but good things to say about it.

I'm not sure there is a better location anywhere in Carcassonne. The penthouse is perhaps 30 meters from the main pedestrian street that runs from the train station, which is itself accessible with a short walk, perhaps 10 minutes at most. It's about two blocks from Place Carnot, where sidewalk cafes surround a square with a picturesque fountain and the wonderful farmers' market takes place several times each week. We're also within walking distance of La Cité, the medieval hilltop for which Carcassonne is probably best known. (We're glad to be staying outside of that area, however — it's a bit too touristy for our tastes.) We've discovered a number of wonderful restaurants within a few blocks of the apartment and I'm already wondering how we will cope without having our favorite bakery, Boulangerie Noez at 57 rue de Verdun, just two-and-a-half blocks away.

The penthouse itself is roomy and bright, with windows on the north, south, and west sides. For those that need it, the WiFi Internet connection is robust and fast at over 8 Mbps download. The kitchen is fully furnished and, while we didn't get to use the patio very often — yes, winter even exists in the south of France — we enjoyed it immensely when the weather allowed.

All in all, we've had a very pleasant stay, and after six weeks it has really come to feel like home.
