Our spacious 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath, home is located on a lovely and quiet tree-lined street in NW Evanston, (near parks, sandy beaches and playgrounds). It is available for rent from approximately May 16 until June 16 and again from approximately June 26- July 26. It is also possible to rent our home for the entire May 16- late July period (with more flexibility on the ending date).
Description of our house: Main floor has a grand foyer, living room with beamed ceiling, gas fireplace, and piano (digital), well-equipped kitchen, dining room, powder room and a sunny family room looking out over the garden.
Upstairs (2nd floor), there are 4 bedrooms, one of which we are use as a office (with two work spaces), but it could be reconfigured as a bedroom. Two of the upstairs bedrooms have attached bathrooms, and there is a third bathroom (with shower) upstairs. Three of the bedrooms are very spacious and the 4th is reasonable in size, with a walk-in closet.
The bottom/basement floor has a sitting area, a well-stocked playroom and a laundry room, and an elliptical exercise machine.
Wireless internet runs throughout the house and the home has both air conditioning and a whole-house attic fan system (for those who don't like air conditioning). Home (not counting basement rooms) is 2700 square feet.
Our garden is large by Evanston standards, with hammock, patio furniture, parasol & gas BBQ for outdoor summer meals. The attached 2 car garage also holds beach chairs, beach parasol, picnic supplies, tennis rackets and sports equipment.
Location & Neighborhood: Our block is quiet and green, with very little traffic. There are a number of academic families and children on the block. Nearby is Central Street, known as one of the most charming neighborhood shopping areas on the north shore (w/ artisan bread shop, traditional bakery, coffee houses, branch library, gelato cafe, gourmet grocery, unique boutiques and a nice variety of restaurants--Thai, Japanese, French bistro, American eatery, Italian, gluten free cafe, pan-Asian etc). The train/express Metra direct to downtown Chicago is here, as well--the Metra train also connects to Chicago's Red Line El, which will take you to Loyola Univ. Chicago, De Paul, etc). Northwestern Univ. & Lake Michigan beaches are also very close to us (a quick bike ride, longer walk or five minute drive). Three playgrounds/parks and several different tennis courts are within a five minute walk from our home, and 2.5 blocks from us is Perkins Woods (a mini forest preserve and birder destination).
Downtown Evanston ("Dining Capital of Chicago's Northshore") is a 8 minute drive or easy bicycle ride away. Old Orchard mall is nearby, as well.
We have a very low-maintenance indoor cat that would need to be cared for while we are away--the rent is discounted from what we pay for mortgage and utilities to compensate for the care. Alternatively, could have friends come and feed her and change her litter box (in the basement) for a higher rental rate.
NOTE: The monthly rental rate INCLUDES weekly professional cleaning services, professional lawn maintenance and beach passes.
No smokers, please, due to allergies. Also, we cannot rent to groups of undergraduate students...thanks.
