In our main home, in Amboise, we have an appartement (120 m2) with three bedrooms, a living-dining room, a bathroom and a shower-room, free for rent. The appartement is situated at the 2nd floor with a wonderful view on the Amboise castle. You have a private garden of 100 m2 and you can park your car safely in our own garden during all your stay.
We are both academic, Etienne is a Law Professor in La Sorbonne University and Véronique is Research Manager.
-The Château d’Amboise was the most important royal castle in the Loire Valley through the reign of the Valois kings. Under Charles VIII it became the headquarters of the realm, while François I was brought up here, as were the children of Henri II and Catherine de’ Medici. Still owned by would-be French royalty, two finely furnished wings remain, plus the delicate chapel and elegant grounds. The ramparts dominate the Loire, and the courtly town of Amboise, its beautiful streets and churches to be discovered on guided tours or by little tourist train. Look out for great cultural events in both castle and town.
-The Italian genius Leonardo da Vinci spent the last three years of his life, from 1516 to 1519, living at Amboise beside the Loire. Called here to serve at the court of King François I, he was granted a fine little château, known as the Clos Lucé, on the outskirts of town. Many facets of his supremely fertile imagination are recalled inside the castle’s buildings, while the place also runs art courses. The elegant grounds are decorated with enchanting depictions of some of his inventions, hung from the trees.The man who gave birth to the Mona Lisa wasn’t just a great painter. When François I called Leonardo to France around 1516, it was also as an architect and scholar. The monarch had acquired a taste for the Renaissance while warring in Italy and wanted his ambitious building projects to be inspired by it. Elevated to ‘first painter, engineer and architect to the King’ when he came to live at the Clos Lucé close to the Château d’Amboise, Leonardo took on many projects, helping transform the castle into a pleasure palace.
