My husband and I lived here for a semester while I taught for my American university program in London, and we were thoroughly delighted with the flat. The 18C brick walls combine with the modern furnishings and appliances to give it charm and great appeal. The mews location keeps things quiet, despite the fact that the entry gate is on Borough High Street (during warm months, you do hear trains rounding the curve into London Bridge Station). A tiny second bedroom makes it feasible to host visitors. Wifi and utilities are included, helping make the flat a good value in this location. The building's thick walls keep the flat warm--we rarely needed to turn on the heat, even during a cold snap in December.

The location can't be beat: a couple of blocks from both London Bridge & Borough Tube stations (London Bridge Rail Station has trains to Gatwick), as well as Borough Market (a truly great urban market, where we bought much of our food--fabulous fish, fruit, veg, cheeses, and wild boar pies) and Southwark Cathedral (lovely carol service just before Christmas). The Globe Theatre, the Tate Modern, St. Paul's, the Tower, & the City are all easy walking distance. Out the flat window you can see the Shard, the tallest skyscraper in the EU, which is rapidly making itself an integral part of the Southwark landscape.

A small Sainsbury is a block south, and a mid-sized Tesco is 1/2 mile away on Tooley St, on a bus line. Nearby pubs include the George ("Shakespeare's local," London's last galleried inn), and, off the High Street, cozy neighborhood places such as the King's Arms of Borough and the Royal Oak. The Old Thameside and the Anchor are two wellknown (and often crowded) riverside pubs for warmer weather. Walks along the Thames (and for my husband, early morning runs) several times a week became a regular part of our London life.

The neighbors look after the apartment for the landlord and are admirably responsive if you need help--we had small problems with the dishwasher & the wifi taken care of immediately. There's no TV, but with the wifi you can stream many BBC & ITV programs.

Make sure to clarify with the landlord what your postal address should be, as early on we found some of our mail misdirected. The building concierge was extremely helpful in tracking down our post.

I rented this enchanting flat for an unforgettably wonderful six weeks and recommend it most highly! I was doing research at the British Library, which is a straight shot on the northern line from the London Bridge tube station, just a block or so away. But the flat has many more advantages than being surprisingly convenient to the BL. As many of the other comments mention, it's steps away from the Borough Market and all the delights of the South Bank; to the list of nearby restaurants already mentioned, I'd add Fish! (best fish and chips I've ever had) and The Rake, a hole in the wall pub on Winchester Walk serving a heady range of local and Belgian brews on tap--and an ambiance that makes a person feel like a real local! I lived here for three months while on sabbatical. This is a lovely apartment in a thriving, diverse neighborhood. It is a short walk to the river, museums, restaurants, galleries, and the remarkable Borough Market. The apartment is comfortable.

I would stay there again should I have the opportunity.

Really enjoyed staying at this one bedroom apartment. The Mews is really well kept and a sanctuary away from the bustle of the London Bridge area. Borough Market being only 1 street away is an absolute bonus. The property manager is a really nice and helpful lady who really made us feel welcome. A very convenient property for access to all of London as the tube station is just across the street. Excellent Justin Kong 10/16/2011 3:53:00 PM
This flat is very nice. It is quite spacious and very bright with two large windows (one in living room, one in bedroom). The bathroom is bright and has lots of shelves. The couch and bed are both comfortable. The best part is the location - a short walk away from lots of wonderful restaurants (try Mango Tree - the best Indian food in London!), and from the Thames path. Two of London's nicest bridges - the Millennium Bridge and Tower Bridge are pleasant (and relatively short) walks away. It is super close to London Bridge tube station which has easy connections all over London. It is also a 30 minute (and pleasant) walk to the London School of Economics. Highly recommended.
