YOUR PLACE IN SAN FRANCISCO: CHARM, VALUE & VIEWS
The comfortable home of a writer and a painter, filled with antiques, books, and art, now available for a six-month rental, June-December 2013.
$3,000 (US) per month. ALL UTILITIES ARE FREE. An ample garage is included. Washer and dryer are also included; so are cable and wi-fi, television and DVD player. The house will be professionally cleaned before you move in.
Located in a safe and colorful neighborhood, on a street of pastel houses a mile from the Pacific and a half-block from Golden Gate Park.
Convenient to San Francisco State, the University of San Francisco, and the University of California - San Francisco, the house is a great fit for singles, couples, and families with children. It's excellent for sabbaticals, leisurely vacations, and re-locations.
In 2012 the house hosted a law professor from New Mexico. Last summer, the house gave a artist from New York a quiet place to finish her book.
Our solar-electric house has hardwood floors, French doors, a newly renovated cook's kitchen, two bedrooms with standard-sized beds, and two updated granite baths. The master bath has a soaking tub and heated floor. Entry, parlor, and dining room have restored gumwood paneling. It's furnished throughout with an eclectic mix of pieces collected over the years.
Stroll to the park's thousand acres of gardens, trails, and cultural attractions, including its spectacular new museums, the de Young and the California Academy of Sciences. Kids love the playgrounds and the miniature yachts that sail on Spreckels Lake. The Beach Chalet restaurant is a fine spot for cocktails and long Pacific Sunsets. When the mood strikes, pedal down the Cabrillo bike route to Point Lobos, Ocean Beach, and the Great Highway. (The tangy salt air that sweeps in from the ocean is the freshest in town.)
Thirty-seven steps above the street, find a haven of quiet, privacy, and greenery under the ever-changing sky of coastal California. Enjoy wine and twilight on the glass-enclosed portico. Savor views of Mt.Tamalpais and the Marin Headlands, from the gleaming onion domes of the Russian cathedral to the towers of Golden Gate Bridge. Fall asleep to a chorus of bellowing foghorns.
The terraced back garden is planted with flowers, sculptural succulents, herbs, greens, and berry bushes. A grove of acacias rises at its summit. Below, a sheltered patio makes a great spot for afternoon relaxation among the hummingbirds and butterflies.
The house is convenient to public transportation and the city's network of bicycle routes. It's a short walk to the bustling "village" along Geary and Clement Boulevards. This is not a boutique enclave, but a living, working community with exotic markets, fine restaurants, aromatic bakeries, funky bars, and bistros of every description and stores for every need. Amble out in the morning and before noon mail your packages, find a easel, eat a scone, deposit your checks, have your coat cleaned, your eyes examined, your shoes repaired, your hair cut, and your nails done.
All renters receive our list of recommendations, designed to enhance enjoyment of the neighborhood's urban texture and the natural beauty of the park and shoreline. Each season brings concerts and shows, with plenty of opportunity for people-watching and chances to hear world-class music -- everything from opera to rock to blues and bluegrass.
The house is also a wonderful base for explorations of the Bay Area and beyond.
