We're renting our 1920s colonial, which sits on one of the most desirable residential streets in Ithaca. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, a small study, and a 500 square-foot finished, walk-out basement with a full bath. There is a working fireplace in the living room, hardwood floors throughout, a dishwasher and other standard amenities in the kitchen, and a detached garage. We have two daughters, ages 4 and 1, and the second floor currently holds a nursery, child's room, our room, and a bathroom. The house has a spacious, tree-lined yard with a treehouse and swing that lures visiting neighbors from 2 years old up to college-age. Out back, there is a nice patio and there is a small porch out front. You can hear waterfalls from the breathtaking Cascadilla Gorge from your bedrooms, as it sits just one house removed, at the end of the street. (The gorge trail makes a wonderful morning walk.) On the other side of the house is a 19th-c cemetery, which is a favorite among local dog-walkers. The driveway holds two cars (three in a pinch), but you may not need two cars, as we're within walking distance to Cornell, "College Town," and the "Commons"--downtown Ithaca. The house is just the right size for our family of four--about 2000 sq.ft., and reasonable to heat during the long Ithaca winters.
