Nelson is an idyllic mountain town, full of creative people who love its natural beauty and are determined to call it home. Nelson's post-secondary offering is Selkirk College, where the man of our family has worked for the last decade, but be honest.... you are probably coming here for fun. Outdoor enthusiasm abounds! The West Kootenays are blessed with four discrete seasons. Winter brings downhill fun in champagne powder at Whitewater Ski Resort and a great community of cross-country skiers at Nelson Nordic Ski Club. A day trip will take you to Red Mountain Resort in Rossland. Relax after your snow play at Ainsworth hot springs. The shoulder seasons are for downhill mountain biking and hiking in the nearby provincial parks. Kootenay Lake borders the town, providing opportunities for kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming during the warm months. This home features mountain views from the upper deck, a lower covered deck with an outdoor Ofuro tub that exits to a large fenced backyard with berries and fruit trees. The house is two levels, with king and queen bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen on the main floor. The garden level contains the children's room, laundry room and rec room, which opens to the lower deck and backyard. There is a full bathroom on each level. The house is rented furnished, minus linens, with a well-equipped kitchen. It is a corner lot and street parking is available on both sides. The house is situated in a quiet and safe residential neighborhood. In the forests above, the 48km multi-use Great Northern Rail Trail is walked, run, biked, and skied by Nelsonites year-round. Most places in Nelson are walkable from this house, including the hospital, downtown core, library, restaurants, taprooms, bars, cinema, theater, yoga studios, rink, pool, and gym... and of course, Selkirk College. A public primary school and middle school are located on either end of our block, with the high school within walking distance. A public francophone school is 15 minutes outside of town, with busing provided. There are two local private schools, St Joseph's Catholic School and the Nelson Waldorf School, both easily accessible from our house with reasonable tuition.
