Welcome to Corvallis, Oregon--often ranked as one of America's "best college towns" and "best places to retire," with mild weather year round, easy access to outdoor recreation (hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, etc.), and all of the activities that one would expect at a large university (e.g. sports, concerts, guest speakers). Corvallis is 1.5 hrs from skiing, 1.5 hrs from Portland, and less than an hour from the coast. In addition, the region boasts dozens of excellent wineries and breweries. OSU is an R1 research university with land, sea, sun, and space grant status. When you're at the house, you'll enjoy lots of light and the front yard's trees and waterfall from the main living area of our 1964 mid-century modern home, which has original floor to ceiling windows across the front, as well as a bank of large plate windows across the back that overlook the back yard. The updated kitchen and bathrooms (major renovation in 2011) provide niceties you would expect from a modern home (ample closet space, dual sinks, large shower, open kitchen). Master bedroom and bath, living room, kitchen, and powder room are on the main floor; and 1 bedroom, an office, a gym, a full bath, and two living areas (one with workspace) are in the walk-out basement. We could easily convert the office or one of the living spaces on the lower level to another bedroom, if needed. A covered patio, upper deck, lower patio, fire table, and hot tub all provide ample opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Lots of trees and large bushes provide privacy from the neighbors. Backyard is fully fenced, and lower level has large dog door for your furry family member(s). There will be space for one car in the carport, which has a 250 v ChargePoint fast charger for an electric vehicle, plus plenty of additional parking on the driveway and street. Master has a queen size, platform bed with foam mattress. Second bedroom has a full size, spring mattress on a traditional bed frame. Dining table is adjustable from 4 - 10 seats. Media room (downstairs) has 50 inch television. Gym includes an elliptical machine and weight machine. Living area upstairs offers plenty of hardwood floor space for yoga. Note: the floor to ceiling windows across the front are original and not tempered glass. This could be considered a hazard for small children. We will be going on sabbatical during fall '24 and winter '25 from Oregon State University, and are seeking exchanges or rentals of 1 - 6 months. Preferred locations are California and the southwestern U.S.. For exchanges: We are seeking a dog friendly home where we can bring our two, adult (11 and 12 y.o.), well behaved, medium sized (50 lbs each), mixed breed dogs. Otherwise our requirements are minimal -- we need one bedroom for us and a workspace. During our last sabbatical we stayed in a 600 sq ft, one bedroom apartment (we did not take our dogs). We have an electric vehicle, so access to charging beyond a 110 outlet would be very nice.
