A historic 1907 Pasadena Four Square, this grand three-story home’s charming original features (hardwood floors, pocket doors, Inglenook) are complemented by modern updates (six-burner Viking range, subway tile, brand new central air and heat). Where Craftsman atmosphere meets comfort, the house has been used for Hollywood filming; our NDA’s bind us to secrecy, but picture a loving, camera-ready family with a taste for art, adventure, and gleaming but eco-responsible SUV’s. Three good-sized bedrooms (including a master with balcony) are augmented with a 400 square-foot finished attic (with its original pull-down door, on pulleys!) that—dorm style—can sleep six (and has, on multiple occasions). A giant kitchen, dining room, and living room with piano (enjoy a complete piano library, classical, Broadway musicals, Vince Guaraldi “Peanuts”), coupled with generous and inviting outdoor decks (front and back), invite communal visiting, eating, and fun (our extended family has hosted Thanksgiving talent shows there over many years—use the pocket doors as your curtain!). Beyond the house’s art, books and board games, family fun/culture can extend to Pasadena proper. The Huntington Gardens, Norton Simon, and legendary Caltech (home of the Einstein Suite) are less than 15 minutes away, the Rose Bowl is yet closer (less than 2 miles), and Old Town Pasadena (award-winning restaurants, shops, etc.) is also within walking distance. For the physical/exercise minded, there are nearby mountain and nature trails (Arroyo Seco); in case of rain, there is both a Peloton AND—yes—a massage chair. Hollywood, Universal, the beach are 30 minutes away. Malibu is an hour’s beautiful drive. With negotiation, there can be use of a car (Honda Fit), although there is a convenient rental car place (Enterprise) nearby as well. An extraordinarily special, one-of-a-kind property that has to be seen to be believed.

Comments: We need to be in London July 28-August 26, 2024. Simplest would be a straight swap, but we travel a lot and could have the entire house available at other times, or at least two bedrooms available year-round.
