Lovely house in Cambridge, UK, near train station

We would like to exchange our house during the summer. We are a couple of academics (me in Southampton and my partner in Cambridge). Our house has three bedrooms: one doube bed, one single sofa bed and an office with a very good deluxe double blow up mattress. The living room has two huge sofas which can also be used to sleep. There is one bathroom. The house has parking to the front. and a lovely garden to the back with a patio. We have 3 bycicles which we can lend.

We would like to exchange somewhere in Europe, ideally near the seaside and/or a swimming pool, and if possible in the countryside or not a very big town. We are travelling with my sister and her two kids (4 and 7) so we need at least 2 double beds in a child friendly household. Cambridge is a very interesting town with the 800 years old University at its centre with many sights and activities. London is 50 min on the train and our house is 12 min walk to the train station.

The exchange doesn't have to be simultaneous but preferably within these dates. We can discuss other dates.

I stayed in this flat from July to December 2017. This is a fantastic flat. The location is great. It is zone 1 and within walking distance of several bus lines, London Bridge station, Borough station and Elephant and Castle. Waterloo is not that far away either. There are lots of street food vendors and Borough Market (with the most amazing Bread Ahead custard doughnuts) nearby. The flat itself is equipped with everything you need. It was great to come in after a transatlantic flight and see that there was dish soap, laundry detergent, and even tea in the cabinet. While I stayed there, the owners added a sofa bed in the living room for guests. Because the flat is near some hospitals and a police station, there are sometimes sirens at night, but a good set of earplugs will take care of that. The owners are extremely kind and responsive. I recommend them and the flat highly! Excellent Sandi 12/20/2017 10:35:00 AM
I rented this place for 5 months from February to June 2017.

The flat is spacious, warm in winter, full of light, and equipped with all the necessary amenities. The bathroom was recently refurbished at a rather high standard. The bed is very comfortable, and all the blankets, pillows, bed linen etc. is of very high quality. Whenever something was missing (such as an iron or a hairdryer), the hosts had it promptly delivered to me. The flat has a nice view on the high-rise buildings of Elephant and Castle area, the London Eye and one can even see the top of the tower of the Houses of Parliament. The bookshelves are full of books to occupy rainy London evenings.

Two small drawbacks that I may mention are that (i) the place may be a little noisy: the neighborhood is calm but Borough high street is a busy thoroughfare and ambulances and motorbikes may sometimes wake you up during the night if you are a light sleeper, but this is something that I got used to rather quickly; (ii) although the flat is spacious, it only has one double bed: when my wife and daughter came to visit me they had to bring an inflatable bed for my daughter. Maybe the hosts should consider replacing the sofa in the living room with a sofa bed.

The area where the flat is located is probably one of the best parts of London in terms of culture, food, and convenience of public transport. Within a short walking distance (10 minutes) there are famous theaters (the Globe, the Old Vic …), museums (Tate modern, HMS Belfast), Southark cathedral and St Paul’s cathedral (a bit further away), the Borough market with its bars and restaurants, etc. One can walk to the Thames and the Globe theatre via small quiet streets. The Northern line (Bourough station) is almost downstairs, and London bridge station and Waterloo station are within walking distance.

Overall, my stay at Monica and Hettie’s flat was an amazing experience and I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a comfortable flat for a short or a long stay in central London.
