Cottage within Bike/Walk/Bus of Univ. of Texas

We have a small cottage in our backyard that we routinely rent to academics and other's needing a place to stay for a month or more. (We are also open to house exchange - see below.) Our home is a little over a mile from the University of Texas and a block from a bus that passes through UT. We live in one of Austin's loveliest old neighborhoods, close to everything but somehow quieter and a bit more "old Austin" than other central areas. Three blocks away you will find four popular restaurants (vegetarian, Italian, Mexican and home cooking), a great old Austin bakery, a neighborhood grocer, a fabulous cheese shop and a cocktail/ gelato bar. The cottage has a small deck and is tucked in next to our chickens. Guests have a private entrance into our home and a sunny living space with attached bathroom both of which are dedicated to guest use. Guests share our kitchen and are given space in both the fridge and pantry to store groceries. Guests also share our washing machine and the cottage comes with a drying rack as we do not have a dryer. We do have a cat and a small schnauzer. The cat is quite friendly but easily deterred if you are not a feline fan. The dog is easy going with the exception of a vigorous, very "schnauzery" greeting until he gets to know you. We are experienced hosts with long-time commitments to hospitality in the broadest sense. We are new to SabbaticalHomes but have a five star rating on Airbnb.

About Me
I am an artisan working with reclaimed textiles and my husband, Chris, teaches special ed at our neighborhood high school. We have a fifteen year old son into tennis and ultimate frisbee. Our household also includes an affectionate kitty named Steve and a small schnauzer named Winston. We love living where we can walk, bike or bus to most anything. We are active, community minded people with a history of welcoming many diverse people into our home. We have chickens, subscribe to a CSA, shop at the co-op, collect rain water, line dry our clothes, hand dry our dishes and power our home with solar panels. We are committed members of a small peace and justice oriented spiritual community. Hopefully all these details give you a small idea what kind of people we are. We look forward to hosting you and helping you experience Austin.
