About Me
Six years ago our family moved to Akumal Mexico to follow our dreams of a simpler life. Fabian is from the Netherlands and Dana is from Canada. We have four children who speak Spanish, English and Dutch. Our camp is quiet and peaceful, You will have your privacy, however, we are always on the property to support you with any needs. We love our life in the jungle and can not wait to share it with you!

Camp Akumal has been a real oasis for us – with 5-6 stays over the last 3 years. My husband and are often on research travel – conducting field work but also taking some time for writing and enjoying the natural environment. Calm. Quiet. Safe. And just lovely overall in all aspects surrounding by a forested landscape. It is a real oasis on this amazing coastline of the Riviera Maya. We have found it to be a place where we can head out so easily for a day of adventure, or just enjoy the calm in the location on the jungle side of the highway, with enough nature around to provide a barrier from the busy tourist areas that are still within very easy reach. The two swimming pools are especially great after a run on the jungle dirt roads (sometimes with monkeys!), or a break after a day of sunshine. And with Akumal nearby, you can still get out to places like La Buena Vida (beach bar with swings!) when you need an evening off just watching the sunset on the beach. Our favorite is actually The Akumal Bakery that has a great menu for all meals (we eat there many times a week…). This summer 2019 we had an exceptionally productive two weeks in July and are now heading back in August again. Perfect location for a writing sabbatical, or undertaking local research on the environment including social/cultural/archaeological aspects. I would also highly recommend Camp Akumal for families, including if you were staying longer with some home schooling mixed in. So many learning experiences possible for middle school kids (email me if you want some direction on that!). Dana and Fabian have been superlative – right down to loaning tools to help clean and cut my rock samples! The on-site car rental are a great new feature too. Excellent Trish 8/11/2019 11:19:00 PM
