Cosy retreat in the heart of Spain: Cottage + studio for rent in historic Almazán, province of Soria.

Quiet retreat in the heart of historical Spain with breathtaking views on the surrounding hills from its terrace.

Ideal for writing and studying. Consisting of the main house and a small studio.
Built on the 12th century walls of medieval Almazán, once capital of the old Spain. Rebuilt with respect to local traditions, close to the medieval town gate.
The mainhouse is equipped with all modern amenities like central floorheating, and has a delightful corral (120 square meters) with three levels where you can enjoy endless summer evenings.
On the medieval wall itself is a small studio-suitable for two people- with a large terrace that's overlooking the hills where you can watch beautiful sunsets.
Soria is even for many Spaniards a well kept secret (www.sorianitelaimaginas.com). Here you are in 'la España profunda': this environment, the people you meet in the little streets with its many bars , it all might remind you of the pictures of Spains great cineast Pedro Almodovar.
Unspoiled nature invites to hiking in the pinewoods and the Sierra de UrbiÓn, biking on the Camino del Cid, not far away from Camino de Santiago. Scattered around the countryside you'll find old sleepy villages. Sport facilities in town: a.o.tennis court and swimmingpool. Good public transport, several times a day bus and train to Madrid, appr. 2 hours. Public library is around the corner; bars, restaurants and shops at walking distance. You're staying in the middle of history: you will find castles, roman churches and Celtiberian ruins (Numancia). The Palace of the Mendoza family - where Joanna the Mad as a child stayed- is at the Plaza Mayor. This is not a 'standard home'. It will give you the peace of mind and inspiration you need. To get an impression of Almazán: watch youtube "Video promociÓn turística de Almazán."

Our temporary home in Almazan, Soria, Spain was a joy to be in. We found our home away from home on your website. We really did luck out stumbling onto this little gem. A mixture of traditional Spanish design with Dutch styling has created a warm, cosy and very comfortable home. The open-plan living and kitchen has a mezzanine where there is a desk, perfect for finishing a book I was writing. The kitchen has an old wood burning range as well as a more modern gas stove and oven. The blue and yellow tiling is like what you would find in an old Spanish country estate and is just lovely. Little windows with shutters, painted blue and French doors to the patio. A terraced and walled garden was just coming out in early spring flowers when we arrived; daffodils, tulips and other blooms I can’t name. Stone stairs lead to a studio at the top of the garden, which used to be the pig sty. The studio has a kitchenette and bathroom and a pull-out double bed. Great for guests. More importantly, it has a door leading to another terrace. This terrace is a wonderful addition to the house. Perfect for a glass of wine at sunset and a bit of birdwatching during the day. It is right on top of the old defensive stone wall around the village, overlooking the cemetery first and the Duero River and fields beyond. We could not have found a better house or host. We now think of our host Renske as a friend and hope to share a wine or two when we are back in Spain. We loved the area so much we have now bought a little house ourselves in this lovely province.
