Character central Auckland bungalow with easy access to campuses

We are an academic family seeking sabbatical visitors to rent our home. We've lived in this home for over 25 years, and love the family-friendly neighbourhood. We have a three bedroom furnished single storey house in Mt Albert available for rent by a small family or couple for up to 12 months. The house is on a small street with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away. We have a large ( 600 sq metres) family-friendly fenced yard with trees, rustic gardens, and a swing. Our modern fully-equipped kitchen includes a gas hob, electric oven, and dishwasher. The large full bathroom includes toilet, bathtub and a separate shower. The second small bathroom has a toilet and sink. We have two large bedrooms (one queen, one single) and one medium-sized single bedroom. The house has a large private back deck with outdoor furniture. There is a clothes washer and dryer available. There is plenty of off-street parking. It is easy (20-30 min) travel to university campuses (University of Auckland or AUT) by train or bus. You can walk to the Unitec campus in 15 minutes. It is also an easy walking distance to well-regarded primary and secondary schools. A shopping mall with grocery store is a 10-minute drive, or 25 minute walk. There are very good cafés and restaurants a 10-minute walk away. Beautiful parks (including the volcanic Mt Albert domain) are also easying distance. The nearest beach, Point Chevalier, is a 10-minute drive from the house.

About Me
I am a socio-cultural geographer with a broad and largely collaborative research programme. My academic path took me from Auckland to Canada and back. As an MA student at The University of Auckland in the early 1980s, I researched community dynamics and land use change in Northland, the region of my childhood. Receipt of a Commonwealth Scholarship then took me to McMaster University in Canada and a Geography programme with strengths in political economy and quantitative analysis. While absorbing those influences, I retained an earlier interest in humanistic geography and developed a doctoral thesis on the urban experience of psychiatric patients. I returned to Auckland in 1988 for two years of postdoctoral work supported by the Medical Research Council and commenced a lectureship in what was then the Department of Geography in 1990.

We loved our stay at Robin and Pat's house in Auckland! The house is large and comfortable and the garden is a paradise with beautiful plants and birds and a canopy swing. During the 5 months of our stay, we harvested passion fruit, feijoas, grapefruit, and even bananas. One of my personal highlights was the beautiful grapefruit tree in front of the bedroom window. The location is great, only a 20-minute bike ride along the cycleway into the city centre or a 10-15-minute car ride. There is also a train station directly around the corner and some new cafés have just opened around the corner as well. Whenever we needed help or had a question, we were sure that Robin and Pat would attend to the issue immediately. Great, reliable and very friendly landlords. If there is one negative thing to say, it is that they maybe didn't do a great job in choosing the photos for advertising their house (because it looks a lot better in reality) ;-) Excellent Anja Schoeps 7/18/2020 7:09:00 AM
We stayed in Robin and Pat's lovely home in Auckland for 5 months at the end of 2019. Their house was really well equipped for travellers like us who just had suitcases and it was in an excellent location - just a two minute walk to the train station and a 5 minute drive to get on the motorway. It also had a wonderful big backyard with native birdlife that our young kids (and us!) loved spending time in. Robin and Pat were very easy to deal with, responding promptly to any queries we had and helping us out in any way they could. Would highly recommend. Excellent Mark 2/12/2020 11:14:00 PM
