Central Austin 2 bedroom home in quiet neighborhood 3 miles from UT

The house is a 750 sqft bungalow located in a family friendly neighborhood with direct access to The University of Texas. Children can play on the playground just ¼ of a mile away and with other kids in the neighborhood. My home has two bedrooms, a shared bath, hardwood floors, sometime lap cat, and a wonderful carporch for sitting and visiting. It’s surrounded by a lawn with trees for lots of shade.

The living room has the most comfortable chair and ottoman imaginable along with a full size leather sofa and decent reading lights. It overlooks the front yard and street and has lots of light coming in from all three big windows. There are two bedrooms, each with queen size beds, nightstands and reading lights. They’re at the back of the house and are very quiet.

The kitchen is fully equipped and has a terrific convection oven. It’s open to the living room giving a sense of ease and space to the front of the house. There are plenty of dishes, pots and pans etc. And a dishwasher. There’s a fair sized dining table that can double as a work space.

The house has central AC which is a must in Texas. The thermostat is programmable so you can have the house waiting at just the right temperature. There’s also high-speed internet, though no TV.

But the most remarkable part of this house isn't in the house at all—it’s the outdoor shower. As the pecan and sycamore trees look on you can scrub down in 100 square feet of funky luxury. It's especially nice when there's a full moon! (NOTE: There is an indoor shower as well-but it's not as much fun.)

In the attached laundry room there’s a big workbench that’s designed with crafting and small projects in mind. I also have the tools to go with it. And what I don’t have one of my neighbors will. There’s also a washer and dryer - hence the name laundry room. And for those who love the scent of line dried sheets there’s a clothes line too.

The Skyview neighborhood is just 3 miles from UT and 5 miles north of downtown—and close to public transportation. While it only takes 15 minutes to get to the UT campus by bus or bike this is a family oriented neighborhood. So if you’re bringing children they may find a playmate just down the street. The neighborhood has no through streets so it has very little traffic of the automotive kind. But there are plenty of folks about walking dogs or strolling with children.

We're on the Capital Metro #7 bus line, with service every 15 minutes, which whisks you to the University of Texas and on to downtown in a snap. That same #7 goes right by wonderful Shipe Park that hosts a free community swimming pool, activities for kids, a baby pool, picnic benches and playground. The #350 airport bus has a stop that's only 1/4 mile from the house so that makes it super easy to get to and from the airport. And while we’re on the subject of the bus-a 24 hour, unlimited trip pass is $2.50.

Avenue G is part of a long established neighborhood. You can walk a couple blocks to buy the morning paper and continue a few more to enjoy it at a local coffee house. Just a block away is Quality Seafood, a fun oyster bar with a Cajun flair. The local Half Price Books is just down the way, along with a sushi joint, Thai, Mexican food and a hamburger place.

I’ve lived in this house for thirty years and love my neighborhood and my neighbors. We all look out for each other and as my home’s summer guests, they’ll take care of you too.

About Me
I have lived within 3 miles of The University of Texas at Austin for over 40 years. This is a wonderful town and I am glad to be a long time resident. I have traveled some in Europe, Asia, Mexico and Central America. My great delight is strapping on a mask and snorkeling the day away. While I am not an affiliated with UT I'm surrounded by students and faculty members.
