About Me
We moved to the Elmwood almost 20 years ago to raise our children in this wonderful neighborhood after having lived in Europe, Asia and the East Coast! Originally from Germany, we are art and culture lovers who appreciate old-world European Style communities with sidewalks, trees and gardens. We are avid out-door enthusiasts, hikers, avid cyclists (in the East Bay Hills and Marin), love to travel and appreciate the great restaurants and musical venues that the area has to offer. Our children loved growing up here but are now launching their own lives but the house always offered ample space for a large family and friends. It has been updated and renovated for maximum comfort and beauty and is furnished in a casual modern style proving everything you need from bedding to towels. The great light, the indoor outdoor flow, the wonderful garden and the modern finishes make it both practical as well as aesthetically pleasing. The Elmwood is a coveted “walkable” neighborhood close to the popular shops and restaurants of College Avenue, while offering proximity to schools, the University, BART and the SF commute. The relatively large lots, spacious Craftsman homes and beautiful tree lined streets give this neighborhood a distinctive, old-world feeling which is attractive to a wide market and considered slightly more affordable than the adjacent Claremont neighborhood. Following the improvement of Berkeley public schools and the general trend towards using more public transportation, this neighborhood has consistently increased its appeal over the last 10 years. It attracts professors, students, relocation buyers from other areas of the country, UC Berkeley new hires and San Francisco buyers who love the value they can get in the East Bay vs. the city. Here are the many places that are within a short walk of the home: Coffee shops and countless great restaurants, boutiques and stores, a fabulous movie theater, Whole Foods, the Berkeley Bowl and numerous farmers markets, 5 independent book stores, Claremont Branch of the Berkeley Public Library, Willard Park with a playground and dog run in the afternoons, Claremont Canyon Hiking Trails and access to Tilden Park, the Steam Trains, Carousel and little Farm in Tilden Park, countless biking and mountain biking destinations right out your door, Strawberry Canyon Pool for year-round swimming in midst of Strawberry Canyon, the running track at UC Berkeley Golden Bear Gymnastics area with views of the city, Beach volleyball courts, Alta Bates Hospital, Maybeck High School, Willard Middle School, UC Berkeley, The Julia Morgan Center for the Arts, public transportation in form of BART and buses.
