Spacious and charming studio in beautiful Berkeley Victorian
This lovely and comfortable studio, on the ground floor of the Victorian house in North Berkeley which my family has owned for fifty-two years, has a separate entrance and is charmingly appointed with antique and vintage furniture.
The galley kitchen has a brand-new high-quality stove, fridge, and dishwasher, as well as a microwave, toaster oven, and coffee maker. The sitting area features a brand-new velvet loveseat and a 33-inch flat screen TV with Roku, streaming Netflix, PBS, and Sling TV.
The double bed, with a comfy three-inch memory foam topper, sits in a cozy alcove, and an exquisite painted screen sets it off from the sitting and dining area.
There's plenty of room to work at the antique desk with a modern office chair and a bookcase, and the walk-in closet with built-in racks and shelves could be set up to provide a second work area. A large closet under the front porch and stairs provides more storage space.
The huge, luxurious bathroom has an antique cast-iron tub with shiny brass fittings, including a rain shower head, and the porcelain sink is set in an antique sideboard with marble top and backsplash.
Sun filters through the floor-length linen curtains, and there are solar shades on the western windows and light-blocking shades on the northern and southern windows.
The flat is fully furnished, including bedding, towels, kitchenware, an iron, and a hair dryer, and the rental includes utilities, wi-fi, use of the washer and dryer just outside your door, and use of the large backyard with patio furniture and fire pit. Professional cleaning every two weeks is available for an extra fee.
The house is a mile from the campus of UC Berkeley, three blocks from the North Berkeley BART station, close to bus lines, and convenient to freeways. Trader Joe's, .6 miles away, offers high-quality groceries, including prepared foods. Monterey Market, only .4 miles away, has a vast selection of excellent produce and bulk dry goods, fresh bread and baked goods from Semifreddi’s, and other gourmet grocery items. We’re walking distance from Shattuck Avenue and downtown, and very close to the restaurants and shops on Fourth Street, Solano Avenue, and College Avenue.
We’re in a safe and quiet residential neighborhood that hasn’t changed since my family moved in and is pleasant for strolling, running, or biking. The Ohlone Greenway, a paved 10.3-mile trail that is lit at night, is only .6 miles away. Tilden Park, only 2.4 miles away, covers 2000 acres, including trails through dense stands of timber and on ridges and peaks providing views over the San Francisco Bay and inland across other preserved land to Mount Diablo. You can access the Bay Trail only 2.4 miles from here. San Francisco is thirteen miles away and easily accessible by BART or car. A little further afield are the stunning Pacific Coast, the historic Gold Country, and much moreāin short, we’re conveniently situated to just about anything Berkeley, the Bay Area, and Northern and Central California have to offer!
We’re Super Hosts on Airbnb, though not currently renting on that platform. I’m just upstairs and will be happy to make sure you have anything you need.
