Beautiful Craftsman home in sought-after Berkeley neighborhood!
A perfect home for a couple seeking a short-term rental (minimum one-month stay) in one of Berkeley's most sought after neighborhoods, Thousand Oaks. It is currently available from May through October, 2018.
Built in the mid-1920s, our solar-powered, Craftsman-style home is warm, comfortable, colorful and welcoming, with a wonderful collection of indigenous and modern art, as well as an extensive book, CD, vinyl and DVD collection. Modern amenities include flat screen TV, high speed wireless internet, dishwasher, laundry facilities, and stereo-turntable-CD player. There are hardwood floors throughout, Kilim carpets, and a working fireplace in the living room. The house is light-filled and sunny nearly all daylight hours.
The gardens include patio with Weber barbecue, just off of the solarium-dining room. The house is currently configured to have one large bedroom along with a large study (with comfortable double sofa bed), but can be arranged in two bedrooms. The bathroom is fully tiled, and has been recently renovated. The kitchen includes a beautifully functioning "Spark" stove also from the 1920s, a 19th Century Japanese kitchen cabinet as well as built-in cabinets, and is stocked with a complete "batterie de cuisine," and all dishes and flatware. Furniture is uniformly comfortable and of excellent quality, and linens can be provided upon request. We are pleased to have a number of interesting antiques, and the house is especially impressive for its interior architectural features.
The house's entry foyer contains a very good quality upright piano. The living room is large, and connects to a dining room which has been converted into a music/TV room. The kitchen is spacious and opens to the eating area, which can easily accommodate ten for dinner. Ours is a residential neighborhood, and on-street or driveway parking is not a problem.
One of the most convenient features of the house is its "walkability" and location, which is less than a five minute walk from Solano Avenue in North Berkeley, with its many restaurants, bookstores, food markets, bakeries, coffee shops and other retail businesses. The campus of the University of California is a short bus or bicycle ride from the house, as is the nearest BART stop. Other universities and colleges abound in the Bay Area, and though not as close as UC Berkeley, are within easy driving or mass transit distance.
San Francisco is a very speedy fifteen to twenty minute journey by car under ideal circumstances, which most unfortunately almost never apply, given Bay Area traffic. BART, however, is a convenient and safe way to travel to some locations in the Bay Area. Oakland is a lovely mid-size city which is very much coming into its own (and claimed the #5 spot by the NY Times in a list of place to visit in 2012) , with a number of excellent restaurants and entertainment spots, and is also very easy to reach. Both the San Francisco and Oakland airports are in easy driving distance from the house.
Our house is available from May through October, 2018. Rental cost includes a gardener and twice monthly housecleaning services, if desired. Since we are in a residential neighborhood, there is ample street parking available. It has been a well-loved home for many years, and we look forward to the possibility of welcoming you to share it!
