Desirable Boston (Jamaica Plain) house with large yard & garden close to shops, parks, and public transit (utilities included)

Desirable central Jamaica Plain, single-family house with large yard & garden in a walkable neighborhood, close to public transit, Centre Street commercial district (shops, a small grocery store, pubs & restaurants), the beautiful Arnold Arboretum (just around the corner), and bike paths. From the house it's a 10-minute walk to the subway (Forest Hills stop on the Orange Line), and 3-minute walk to a major bus line (route 39). The Pierre Lallement Bike Path to the city center is also very close, as well as a bike sharing station (JP Monument Hubway Station). The owners bike commute to work (the city center and MIT are both about 30 minutes away, Harvard about 40 minutes, UMass Boston about 30 minutes). There are also two nearby car sharing lots (Zip Car). Other attractions include Jamaica Pond, which has sailboat and rowboat rentals, and Franklin Park.

The house is on small hill in a quiet neighborhood and is perfect for a family of 3-5 people. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two office areas, a library, a dining room, two decks, and an open living area and kitchen are spread across 4 floors (approximately 1,800 square feet, or 170 square meters). It is furnished, with a fully equipped, renovated kitchen and high-end appliances. Two stereo systems, a flat screen TV, and Wifi (both wireless and Ethernet ports), and washer are included. Radiant floor heating in the open living area and kitchen. Ideal for people on a sabbatical who need a fully functional, beautifully renovated, and furnished place, with great room for kids. Lots of books, for both kids and adults (in English and Italian). There is also an organic garden, which in mid-September when the house is available, will still have some tomatoes, kale, zucchini, squash, and other vegetables to pick. We'll also leave a large container of this year's garlic for you to use. Our neighbors are very friendly and considerate, and would be happy to offer helpful advice as you settle in.

More details on the house: Originally built in 1880, the house was fully renovated a few years ago (all new-wiring, plumbing, plaster, insulation, appliances, and paint). Featured in two architecture magazines, the redesign preserves historical aspects of house, such as exposed wood ceilings, the slate roof, and wood floors, while adding new elements, including a large open living area and kitchen, library, top floor dormer, bathrooms, vertical addition to side, and decks. One of the most welcome changes (and rare in New England) are new & expansive, light-filled open spaces, such as the kitchen and living area, the library, and the top floor, as well as more intimate ones, such as the study, bedrooms, and dining room. The top floor deck has views of the surrounding neighborhood and downtown Boston, while the large lower deck off the kitchen and open living area looks out over the back yard and garden.

Price includes all utilities (electrical, gas, wifi, and water). Please write with any questions, or if you would like to see photos of more of the house (including bathrooms and other rooms).
