Spacious 2-bedroom house on Bowen Island near Vancouver

Bowen Island is a beautiful island (see island’s website: https://www.tourismbowenisland.com/), home to approximately 5000 people, and “bedroom community” to many Vancouver and UBC and SFU commuters. A getaway from the busy city, Bowen Island is a friendly community with ferries on the hour (see schedule: https://www.bcferries.com/schedules/mainland/biva-current.php), several high calibre restaurants, a newly built timber frame pub, two marinas, two grocery stores, many independently owned cafes, excellent hikes, Metro Vancouver’s crown jewel park Crippen Park, Ecological Reserves, and forests, beaches, and trails close to every neighborhood.

Our home (built 2012) is a perfect retreat for a family or couple wanting to enjoy a cozy and stunning setting with all the comforts and amenities nearby. Walking distance from Deep Bay (Pebbly Beach), Snug Cove, coffee shops, grocery stores, the Cormorant water taxi, and the BC Ferries dock for trips to Vancouver, this furnished house has a view of the ocean (you can see UBC) and hiking trails literally out the back door. The house is a custom timber frame home with detail to maximizing sunlight and views of the surrounding natural bluff and forest (deer and squirrels pass by on a regular basis, and no, there are no bears on Bowen). We live on the Eagle Cliff bus route (goes by every hour if you don’t want to walk or drive).

We (Colin and Suzanne) are both academics who work sometimes from home, and sometimes make day commutes into Vancouver or to UBC. We love Bowen, the setting of this house, and the newness and coziness of this home. We also both have strong legs: this house is perched 100 steps above the driveway (our neighbours climb steps too – we have all opted for this daily trek for the sake of being up near the forest and to see the view), so this location is not ideal if mobility is a challenge.
Cost $2950 CDN/month (includes Wi-fi, municipal water costs, but not heating/electricity costs).

About Me
I have recently completed a Postdoc at the UBC Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences and will be starting a postdoc at the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University in June 2019. I grew up in Vancouver BC and now live nearby, on Bowen Island. I am married with two children, and we love skiing, hiking in the forest, and getting out on the ocean.
