2,200 sq. ft. furnished, bright and friendly living space in the scenic costal village of Stony Creek, CT. It is a former fishing and oystering village on Long Island Sound by the famous Thimble Islands...Living here feels like being on vacation year round!
The house is set on a hill, close to the water and marshes. It has high ceilings, wooden floors and many windows and was built in 1850, completely redone and expanded. There is an open kitchen & dining room. The cabinetry is light maple wood, a new downdraft gas range and convection oven was installed the summer of 2018. Off this space you will find an office/TV/guest room, a large living room with a piano, and a library which can double as a play room or an artists work space, as its window exposure is N and E. There are 3 upper level bedrooms, one of which is the spacious primary bedroom/ office suite. Altogether there are 2.5 bathrooms.
Included in the rental are linens, towels, blankets and a well equipped kitchen.
The yard is typical of old New England, with some old stone walls. The street itself is a dead end, you can park in front of the main entrance/ front yard, or on the street.
A few steps take you to the town beach and boat launch. Kayak or paddle-board around the islands (you can rent these), jog, walk, bike and explore to your heart's content. There are salt marshes, trails and spectacular public hiking land all around.
This little village and the towns of Guilford and Branford have good places to enjoy food and activities. Stony Creek has its own post office, a museum, the Stony Creek Theatre, 2 playgrounds and the Willoughby Wallace Public Library, which is 3 houses away. The library offers adult and children's programs, Yoga, readings, concerts. The Guilford town green and Branford town green are about the same distance away.
The local public schools are Tisko Elementary school, Sliney School, Mary T. Murphy school, Walsh Middle School and Branford High School- all have good reputations. There is a Montessori kindergarten close by.
For year-round sports indoor and out there is a YMCA (sports center) which has a large swimming pool and is a mile away. Other local offerings include a horseback riding, workshops for adults and children year round at the Guilford Art Center, with themes from painting and pottery to blacksmithing, music and dance schools in both Guilford and Branford.
Emergency care is directly by the highway exit (Exit 56) or Yale emergency services at Exit 59.
Stony Creek is located north of New Haven on the Atlantic ocean waters of Long Island Sound. It is 8 miles or a 15 minute drive to Yale University and New Haven on I-95. Driving to NYC 1 1/2 hours, 2 hours to Boston by car. A commuter train goes to New Haven (Shoreline East) from the Branford train Station.
