Stunning seaside house in Cadaques, on Spain’s Costa Brava

Mid July to late August

A large, sunny house in Cadaques, the most exquisite village on Spain’s Costa Brava. It’s wonderful for a holiday, but also fantastic as a writing retreat - I wrote a whole book up there, so it’s a great place to work! A bit of writing, a swim, some writing, a stroll, a siesta, a bit more work, and a nice seafood dinner by the sea… just watch time fly and the pages adding up!

Cadaques, barely a couple of hours North of Barcelona, is a jewel of the Mediterranean, pretty as a picture, buzzing in summer but without being brash, with just about the best seaside cafes, breathtaking views, cute winding streets, and clear blue waters you could ever wish for. Salvador Dali, who used to hang around the place a lot, said it was the cosmic centre of the world, and so it has remained to this day. (You can visit Dali’s house in Port-Lligat, it’s a 15mn walk from the house). Cadaques has a lively art scene with lots of galleries and exhibitions throughout the summer, and - lest we get too high-cultural - plenty of shops too. And seafood to die for. And great for scuba-diving if you're into that kind of thing.

From Cadaques you are just over an hour away from Perpignan in France, and it’s also a great base from which to explore the coastline and the interior, with gorgeous small towns like Carcassonne, Collioure and Ceret on the French side, and Besalu, Port de la Selva and Empuries on the Spanish side. Girona, with its wonderful Old Quarter, is about one hour’s drive to the South.

Ok - On offer here for rental is a bright, beautiful and spacious 3 bedroom house in the centre of town, only 5 minutes walk from the beach and all the seaside cafes and restaurants. The main living area is a fantastic double-height space with huge windows opening to a large sit-out balcony with views of the mountains and a bit of sea. The top floor is an open mezzanine with a separate lounge area and study. There is ample built-in storage throughout the house. There are two double bedrooms on the first floor. The third bedroom has a large (1m) single bed and en suite shower room. There is also a complete bathroom between the two main bedrooms and a separate wc on the main floor.

There is wi-fi broadband, a washing machine, dishwasher, lovely open fireplace, electric oven and cooker, large fridge-freezer, microwave, bedlinen and blankets, towels, cutlery and plates, hot water, and everything you need for a fabulous mediterranean holiday.

Most likely available from mid-May through early Sept.
I'm not sure yet when I'll be there myself for a couple of weeks during the summer, so just ask and we might be able to work it out.

It's mostly available during the rest of the year, except for Easter and New Year.

Prices per week see below.

We spent a month in London doing academic research in an institute just south of Euston Station. The flat met our needs perfectly. We took the overground to Euston from Kilburn High Road each day -- a ten-minute ride. Other times we used the Barkerloo tube line, which cuts across London diagonally. The flat is well situated about a six minutes walk from Kilburn High Road, which has several high quality food stores, and a ten minute walk to Salusbury Road, with an abundance of restaurants for all tastes. The flat itself is on the first floor (American definition), bright and airy with big windows in both the front and the back. The kitchen is small but well equipped and functional. Our only challenge as an older couple, one of whom has bad knees, was getting out of the rather low bed. We would definitely return! Excellent Helen Ladd 7/4/2016 7:39:00 AM
I really enjoyed my monthlong stay in this apartment (in June 2014). First of all, the unit itself is gorgeous. It's beautifully decorated and comfortably appointed, which makes it a perfect place to sleep, work, cook, and enjoy a rainy day indoors.

I also really loved the neighborhood, which I probably wouldn't have known about had I not stayed there. It's got plenty of grocery stores in Kilburn High Road (Marks & Spencer, Tesco, and Sainsbury are all within a 10 minute walk) and Salusbury Road, the main drag in Queen's Park, is a lovely place to take a stroll, have a meal, or grab a drink. There's also a nice range of fitness options nearby, including Bannatyne's gym in Maida Vale, Fierce Grace Yoga on Kilburn Lane, as well as Queen's Park, if you like to run.

I was initially worried about feeling too far away from central London. But the neighborhood is extremely accessible and convenient (with the added bonus of feeling like an actual neighborhood instead of hotel district). You can get to the British Library in about 15-20 minutes via the overground, and to the theater district and tourist zone in the same amount of time via the Bakerloo line on the underground. So I never felt as though I was far away from the action.

Overall, I was thoroughly satisfied with my experience, and highly recommend the apartment, and Viviana, should you find yourself searching for housing in London.

My husband and I stayed at this flat for two months in Spring 2012 while I was completing a postdoctoral fellowship. We were extremely satisfied: the flat was very clean, with modern kitchen appliances, well-furnished, and spacious enough to allow us to have friends come over for dinner. Close to Queen's Park and Kilburn High Road station, commuting to Euston to take the train or work at the British Library was very easy and convenient, and I could jog in the park on a daily basis. Sainsbury's and Marks & Spencer are located 5 minutes away. This is a very calm neighbourhood, and writing at home was great, with the working desk facing a beautiful garden. Given the London market, we thought it was worth the price requested. Getting the security deposit back was easy, and Viviana was very friendly and professional. Should I have to come back to London for an extended stay, I would not hesitate to contact her again.

Reply from owner: There was never any mould in the bedroom, just smell coming from the bathroom drains, due to some roadworks the municipality was doing nearby. Everything looked (and smelled!) absolutely fine by the time we checked, but just in case, we also cleaned the drains in the bathroom. We've had many happy tenants since.

Complaint: The room downstairs was not possible to use as a bedroom due to the smell of mould, which was particularly strong from the bathroom.
