BEAUTIFUL RIVIERA VILLA FOR DREAMY GET-AWAY

Whether you are looking for a week in the Riviera sun this summer or a dreamy sabbatical year starting this fall, LA TERRE DE SIENNE, our romantic villa in Renoir’s village of Cagnes-sur-Mer, may be the perfect home for you. It’s also ideal for a writing/cooking/painting or horticulture workshop.

Built in 1924 in the Italianate style, LA TERRE DE SIENNE is one of the most beautiful and authentic villas remaining on the Cote d’Azur. It has been in the Schulberg family for 60 years, and is lovingly cared for by its owners – Sandra, KC, Peter & Jon Schulberg -- the grandchildren of Hollywood film pioneer BP Schulberg.

Each of the five bedrooms has its own balcony, garden view, or direct access to the garden through French doors. The magnificent garden has areas for outdoor meals and lounging/reading/writing in sun or shade, and its own "Boulodrome" for playing Bocce Ball or Petanques.

Downstairs, there is a living room with TV and two comfortable couches, a windowed dining room that seats 10, a modern kitchen, two double bedrooms, bathroom & powder bathroom, and separate laundry room.

Upstairs is the formal “salon” with piano, a library/office (with extra bed), three double bedrooms, and a bathroom. A balcony runs the length of the salon & library, accessed through three French doors. It has a huge awning, sitting areas & bar tables.

The house is perfect for a family with children, who can play safely in the large enclosed garden. Cars enter through our main gate and park on the property.

From the balcony & garden, you can see the Mediterranean Sea, and the seashore is a 5-minute drive or short walk away. Nice airport is a 15-minute drive along the coast road.

The Cagnes train station, baker & butcher can be reached on foot in less than 10 minutes. The coastal train is a fun & easy way to avoid summer beach coast traffic and get to Cannes, Antibes (with its Picasso Museum built into the ramparts), Nice (with its flower market & Matisse Museum), the palace & casino of Monte Carlo, or over the border into Italy. There are also two bicycles on the property to use.

Other points of interest include the Renoir House/Museum and the medieval Haut-de-Cagnes with its Grimaldi Chateau; the charming walled village of St. Paul with its famous Galerie Maeght sculpture garden and Colombe d’Or restaurant; Picasso’s ceramics studio in Vallauris; the glass-blowing factory & Leger Museum in Biot (also site of the Sophia Antipolis business school & university).

School-age children can attend several local schools that are rated highly.

LA TERRE is furnished with antique furniture and flea market treasures, including historical documents from the 19th & 20th centuries, interesting art, and vintage posters. Many artists and writers have lived at the house over the years, leaving paintings and memoires. And each May the house has served as headquarters for various filmmakers (including family members) who attend the Cannes Film Festival.

LA TERRE DE SIENNE is fully equipped with linens and dishware, TV and wireless internet. You need bring only your eagerness to spend time away from home, and perhaps the yen to write that scholarly article, book, or screenplay that begs for your concentration in a place of contemplation and beauty.

About Me
I am a movie producer (Exposed, Quills, Waiting for the Moon, etc) who teaches Feature Film Financing in the graduate film school of Columbia University each spring. I continue to travel the country and the world with Nuremberg: Its Lesson for Today [The Schulberg/Waletzky Restoration]. As Founding Director of the IFP, I have been a longtime advocate for our field and now run IndieCollect, a non-profit organization devoted to the preservation and restoration of American independent films. We work closely with the Academy Film Archive and UCLA Film Archive in Los Angeles, the Museum of Modern Art in NY, and and other archives around the country.
