The warmth of traditional Cambridgeport family housing with clean, modernist décor and a strong sense of color. The location is terrific, just a 15 minute walk from MIT, Harvard, Central Square or Boston University. Longwood Medical Area is just a little further and right on the #47 bus line that stops 1 block away. Because Glenwood Ave is one-way and only one block long, the spot is very quiet, peaceful, and green. Enjoy the large, well-kept back yard and gardens with a picnic area and fire pit. The Charles River is 1½ blocks south, with paths for running, walking, biking, and cross-country skiing, as well as an exercise area, playing fields and a boat launch. There are also multiple activities each week at Magazine Beach Park operated by the Mass Audubon Society. The apartment comes with the use of my kayak as well! Even though the house feels far from any business, just one block West is Trader Joe’s and the MicroCenter tech superstore, as well as Whole Foods, two gas stations. and Walgreen’s Pharmacy are just one block further. The neighborhood is peppered with local gems, like Alive & Kicking Lobsters & Seafood, often featured internationally as one of the best neighborhood spots in the Boston metro area. Central Square, the heart of Cambridge, is a 15 minute walk away with a great variety of shopping spots, restaurants, theaters, arts venues, and businesses. Harvard Square, Kendall Square, and Kenmore Square are each just a 20 minute walk. I’ve lived in this house for over 35 years. Until recently, it belonged to legendary MIT Literature Professor Louis Kampf. Back in the early 60s, Louis convinced MIT to hire his best friend and protégé Noam Chomsky, when everyone in academia still considered Chomsky’s linguistic theories to be heresy. If you’re a Chomsky admirer, you can enjoy knowing that he took part in countless boisterous discourses over delicious meals in this house. On-street parking is plentiful. But if you have a car and would like to rent a spot in the driveway (avoiding the drama of tickets and towing during street cleaning and snow removal), we can work that out. If you’d prefer to rent my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek for the period of your rental, I might be able to work that out as well. During the rental period I can be reached by email, text, or WhatsApp. I will be working in Costa Rica but I have an excellent team of regular workers who can solve any problems. I have also engaged a snow removal company. My husband Roberto is a visual artist who trained at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. The apartment is filled with terrific works by many of our friends as well as several by Roberto himself. Roberto and I both love to cook, so the kitchen is well equipped, with a large, well-supplied pantry, some useful equipment, and plenty of counter space. Free laundry washer and dryer are included in the basement. This third floor space is light and open, with lots of windows holding broad views of the Cambridge rooftops and across the river into Boston. The skyline view includes the Hancock and Prudential buildings in the Back Bay, as well as the new "Jenga" building, about which a Bloomberg article is entitled, "Staid Boston Gets An Architectural Wake-Up Call). The two bedrooms are newly remodeled. Bedroom #2 has a very comfortable new Queen Size Bed and a heated floor, as well as a large desk and file cabinets. Bedroom #1 has a very comfortable Double Size Futon Bed on a metal frame that super-easily transforms to a couch if you wish, as well as an office alcove with an architect desk and three filing cabinets. I feel tremendously privileged and delighted every day I get to be in this home. I hope you’ll enjoy it too!
