I have worked with Janet on two rentals; the first did not work out and the second did.

In both instances, it has been a pleasure working with Janet: she has been clear about her needs and probing about mine, working to ensure a good fit between the two.

When the dates and actual offering did not work out on our first attempt, we both left the door open for later opportunities because the communications were clear, quick and friendly.

When Janet's second posting came up for different dates that worked out well for me, we were able to strike an agreement quickly and I'm very much looking forward to being Janet's neighbor for a full year. Again: our dealings have been professional, with everything in writing and nothing left ambiguous (down to a written inventory of the contents of the apartment!); at the same time, they have been warm, with a glass of wine being shared as we were signing documents.

I hope all my interactions with SabbaticalHomes.come over the coming years are as successful as these have been.

As a side note: this is my second rental through SabbaticalHomes, with two different "landlords" and both have exceeded my expectations.

I've rented three times before with Sabbatical Homes and been delighted by the trust, transparency and spirit of our exchanges. However, from the time we began our exchange on this property, it was evident that the owner was renting her Cambridge home purely as a business venture. After agreeing on a price and rough dates she effectively reneged on her offer because someone better came along just before the deal was signed. (We were just going through the paperwork.) She then claimed it was my fault for having been slow in responding to her request for a credit checks and "in America there is competition" (I had submitted my forms but my wife was out of town so there was a few day delay -- in the mean time I was arranging to send her a deposit). Just as I was preparing to submit, she came back saying if we wanted to keep the place we would have to pay more and rent for longer. While I begrudgingly admire her mercenary spirit, it does not seem in the spirit of sabbatical homes. If all she is after is money, then I would encourage her (and encourage you to encourage her) to rent through a property management company.

I just thought I should let you know.
