About Me
I am an Emeritus Professor at the University of the Western Cape and the Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Oral Health. I have been involved mainly with post-graduate education and training and my main research areas have been on Infectious Diseases and Infection Control; Ethics, Bioethics and Research Ethics; Oral Health Quality of Life; Trauma and Child Abuse. I have written Ethics, Research Ethics, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B vaccination policies, published and presented on Ethics, Child Abuse, Cross infection, Hepatitis and HIV/AIDS. I am very widely traveled and have presented numerous scientific papers at international conferences and has been an invited and key note speaker, nationally and internationally on several occasions. I have been a member of the Medical and Dental Professional Board of the Health Professions Council of South Africa, Past President of the SA Division of the International Association of Research and current President of the International Dental Ethics and Law Society. Apart from my academic career, I am passionate about food and wine, Art and History of Art, a keen Opera & Classical Music fan and an avid bird watcher with a life list of nearly 600 species. I am interested in the Art and Culture of Japan.
