We spent a year at Elisabeth's beautiful home in Chateauneuf. Everything was amazing. We loved the view from the terrace, having dinner while the sun set over the sea, swimming in the pool, playing lawn games, relaxing in the hammock, and in the winter, warming ourselves by the fire. The house is filled with art and is impeccably decorated. The kitchen was well-equipped and had a great open plan, so that one could serve appetizers at the bar while cooking. Elisabeth maintained the aquarium for us while we stayed, and we loved having colorful fish to look at all year long.
The house is incredibly spacious, with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms upstairs and an additional studio apartment with a big bed, its own full bathroom, and a couch that can be converted into a bed. We entertained all year long, hosting friends and family, including quite a lot of people at once! The house is so big, it was easy to accommodate.
The region is amazing. First of all, within a ten minute walk is the village of Chateauneuf. The old village is very cute, and the commerce has everything you need - an excellent cheese shop, a very good boulangerie, a butcher, a pharmacy, a vegetable market, and a cute coffee shop/book store. Plus a good restaurant. We actually didn't need a car for our daily life. However, the region has so much to offer, having a car is really worth it. We explored the perched villages nearby - Gourdon, St Paul de Vence, Biot, Greolieres. All have their special charms. In the winter there is some skiing just 45 minutes away at Greolieres and very good resorts 2 hours away at Isola. In the autumn, spring, and summer there's the beach. There are so many towns to explore along the Cote d'Azur, we didn't manage to see everything in a year! Plus you are quite close to Italy and the Italian Riviera, which has its own special feel.
If we ever have the opportunity to live in the south of France again, we would love to stay at Elisabeth's house - we had a magical year and can't wait to visit again.
