About Me
Frédéric Conrod is a native of the Paris area. He has pursued his education between the Université de la Sorbonne where he studied American civilization and literature, Allegheny College where he received his B.A. in Religious Studies, and the University of Colorado where he earned an M.A. in Spanish Peninsular Literature and a PhD in Comparative Literature. His area of expertise is the correspondence between the Spanish Golden Age and the French Enlightenment. His first book, Loyola's Greater Narrative: The Architecture of the Spiritual Exercises in Golden Age and Enlightenment Literature (Peter Lang: New York, 2008), deals with one dimension of this problematic: the repercussion of the Ignatian exercises on the rise of the novel, and particularly their direct consequences on the writings of the marquis de Sade. His recent edited volume Beyond Hate: Representations of the Parisian Banlieue in Recent French Film and Literature focuses on the potential dialogues between the French Enlightenment and the negotiation of identities in the Parisian banlieue in the films of a new generation of directors. In the summer of 2012, Conrod also published a novel of dialogues titled El hijo de Hernández , adapted into a film and to be released in January 2013.
