I am subletting my bright and cozy little home in quirky, pleasant, and tree-filled Northgate Park neighborhood for the summer! If you care about getting a lot of natural light, you'll love this house! Hang out in the peaceful back yard (from which you can enjoy the view of artist Gene Dillard's beautiful tiled home: http://www.genedillardart.com/my-house/), borrow a bike to get around (downtown and Duke East are 2 miles away and an easy bike ride down the Ellerbee Trail), make yourself at home. This is an lovely and comfortable-feeling space where you can rest and relax. Also, I've got amazing neighbors, a beautiful park to walk in just four blocks away, along with the trails behind the Museum of Life and Science. It's the perfect combo of being close to everything going on downtown, and yet tucked away in a peaceful little haven!

The house is a charming little 2BD/1BA bungalow (built 1941) with hardwood floors and lots of natural light. There are two closets in the main room, one for hanging clothes and a shallower one with shelf space, and a half closet in the additional bedroom. Both bedrooms have queen size beds. The rest of the house is quite simple. There is a dining room that connects to a living room, one bathroom, and a tiny kitchen with the most beautiful morning and afternoon light that provides the best "cooking triangle" to prepare meals I've had. I've got all the basics (microwave, stove, oven, toaster oven, pressure cooker, blender, etc.), except no dishwasher. Washer and dryer are in the basement, with plenty of space to hang clothes. The house is perfect for summer students, professors, or interns. There is a carport that I use as an outdoor "porch", but which can accommodate two cars.

Other things I love about the house: the golden light that comes into the bedrooms in the afternoon, 1940s charming details, hardwood floors, great water pressure with plenty of hot water, central AC/heating, easy to open and close newer windows, the basement keeps the house much dryer than most Durham homes I know, convenience to grocery stores, how solidly constructed it is.

Rent includes yard work and basic Time Warner internet. Other utilities charged as consumed. $100 cleaning fee at end of stay.

We, my husband and I, can only describe our near two-year stay as perfect. The house is gorgeous decorated in Mexican style with art and objects from different parts of Mexico. Light is everywhere and due to the design and architecture, the house feels and lives as very spacious. Basically, all of our Mexican friends who came to get to know the house commented how unique and spectacular the house is. The flat is also fully equipped. It counts with regular maintenance and weekly cleaning provided by Beto, devoted and kind carer, that has worked with the family for decades and is absolutely trustworthy. The landlady, Ara, a lovely lady and a pleasure to get to know, lives in the first and second floors (independent doors but access through a common staircase) and is both very helpful and very respectful of the space and privacy of tenants. Her daughter, Nayeli, ensures that everything is kept running pristinely and takes immediate action in case something is off. Location is unbeatable. 1-min away from Mercado Medellín, a famous market where to do your groceries and have a bite from the food stalls, the area around allows you to fully feel the vibe of both popular Roma with its street food, traditional shops, and typical architecture (it is 5 streets north of the house CuarÓn lived in and shot in Roma) and the more modern and hipster Roma Norte and Condesa which are a 5/10-min walk away. The area is safe, and we never encountered any problems living in it. In a nutshell, we can’t recommend more staying here as it offers privileged access to genuine Mexican culture and life!
