SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS RIVERSIDE BUNGALOW

SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS RIVERSIDE BUNGALOW
Near University of California at Santa Cruz

Available from early March to mid December; dates are flexible
$2600 monthly

Sunny property located in quiet South Felton neighborhood on circular road directly across from Henry Cowell Redwood Park. Access to private river beach just steps away. Very safe for families, small children, and pets; also ideal for serious outdoor activity lovers.

Explore extensive hiking, biking, and equestrian trails among ancient redwoods in this unique riverfront environment. Hike uphill in the park for views of Santa Cruz Boardwalk and Monterey Bay, and to explore local pockets of the rare mountaintop Santa Cruz Sand Hills ecosystem.

Adjacent to the park, the Roaring Camp and Big Trees Railway offers a taste of old California as narrow-gauge trains chug up into the forest year-round, and in the summer roll down to the Beach Boardwalk of Santa Cruz. The sounds of the train whistling and blowing off steam add to the unique soundscape of the property, where the main sounds are the river flowing, the wind in the trees, horses cantering on the trail, and many types of birdsong.

The home is located one mile from Felton, a town with convenient services including New Leaf Market (local, organic and gourmet items), restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and Don Quixote’s International Music Hall. There is a weekly seasonal Farmer’s market on Tuesdays. Downtown Santa Cruz is 6 miles away, with its surfing beaches, scenic West Cliff Drive, and Natural Bridges State Park. UCSC Campus is approximately 20 minutes by car accessible from town or via mountain roads. Some faculty members commute to UCSC from Felton by mountain bike, directly over the hill via trails. Excellent location for Bay Area travel; less than an hour and a half from major cities, airports and attractions. To the north there is easy access to San José and the Silicon Valley via car (40 minutes) or express bus from Scotts Valley just 10 minutes away. Downtown San Francisco is 90 minutes away, and SFO is about 70 minutes travel time.

To the south, Monterey is less than 1 hour away, Carmel and Big Sur lie slightly further down Highway 1.

THE HOUSE

About Me
After 37 years of teaching philosophy to undergraduates, I retired in the suimmer of 2016 from the University of Toronto to Victoria, British Columbia and purchased my own property here. My wife Martha owns a pretty riverside bungalow in the Santa Cruz mountains in California, and this is listed with sabbatical homes.com for rental from early March to the end of 2018.
