Ancient Buid.,Center in Beyoglu, with Balcony and very Silent !

The apart is situated in Beyoglu. You are in 4 Min in Taksim, Istiklal Street and Galata Tower. Its close to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace. The Beyoglu district is since the 19.Century the heart of Istanbul. It is one of the most colourful urban neighbourhoods with art gal., shops, restaurants, theatres and unique night life where also the main intellectual and cultural life has its centre. Although the flat is in down town, it is hidden in quiet small street. It is few steps to the British Consulate next to the German Protestant and Armenian churches. The 95 M2 flat with alarm has an exclusive design and is perfect for a family or a group of friends. It is on the first floor of the house 4 steps only. There is enough place for 7 persons. The living room can be changed with a very comfortable sofa bed to a bedroom. The kitchen is well equipped. A small balcony is looking to silent garden. It suits for longer staying.

I booked this apartment from Germany. The host speaks German and so I left on the fact that the data are both true and half-way german standards correspond. This was unfortunately not so.

First of all, the apartment is located in a district called Tepebashi, which does not have the best reputation among the districts in Istanbul (lots of vacancies, a lot of demolition, a lot of poverty and conflicts with drugs / crime etc.). The location is central -in the proximity of the Europlaza hotel - but in no case 4min away from Taksim, Istiklal and Galata! To get to Taksim, you have to take the metro and to the subway station you need 10min. You can walk also over the Istiklal street, but then you can reach also on foot after approx. 10 min. Galata is about 15 minutes away. The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace are located on the historical peninsula Sultanahmed. To get there, you must also use public transport or take a long walk of about 1 hour. The "exclusive design" of the apartment extends to a sparse and partly already worn out furnishings. There are 2 bedrooms and each one has a double bed - nothing more. In the living room are 2 supposedly extendable sleeping couches as well as a small table with 4 chairs, a broken lamp and a TV - that's it. Only the kitchen is fully equipped and is located in the middle of the hallway. The bathroom has a shower, in the corners lots of mold, a ceiling with great moisture stains as well as an old washing machine, which had already rust. This is far away to be "exclusive".

The small quiet balcony turned out to be a narrow place with a distance of 1 m arm length to the neighbor's terrace. The garden is an approximately 20 square meter, fenced and walled rubbish dump, with only 4 trees and gives home also to a cat population that also has entered the balcony. The apartment is on the ground floor, which is here as a first floor. And "very quiet" it was never during my one month stay! There was actually always noise from the street in front of the house and I do not know what was worse: due to the close cultivation, one always heard the neighbors. It is an old apartment without any isolation or impact sound protection - so you have heard always the whole day (and also the night) all "activities" of the neighbors from above. The cats on the balcony, which emanates from one of the two bedrooms, often whaled the whole night. And starting from the second week there were construction works in the house, there were gravely debris carried out from the house, which was also accompanied by a high noise annoyance. Also the Internet did not go and I had 14 days without get along.

Conclusion: The apartment offers 6-7 people place to sleep - but not more. If you only need a cheap and half-way overnight accommodation, no demands and is not sensitive to noise, will find here. For a longer academic stay - and so I understand "Sabbatical Homes" - it is not suitable. And for the offered things are 900 euros clearly too much money and a big disappointment to me!
