apt with views in lovely World Heritage city

Comfortable, quiet, sunny apartment, with spectacular views of the medieval city and surrounding countryside (the first 2 photos and the last photo were taken from the balcony).

Wonderful as a writer's retreat (I can attest to this, as I wrote my 2nd book here!). Great for birdwatching too (the balcony has open views of the sky and bird migrations). Ideal for anyone that wants to get away from big city life, and enjoy the tranquillity, beauty and charm of a small world heritage city where you can walk almost everywhere, and experience the "real" Spain. Cáceres also has an unusually rich cultural offer for a small city: it houses the Helga de Alvear Museum (a top-notch collection of contemporary art), and hosts many cultural activities, many of which are free: live music concerts and festivals, dance and theatre performances, art exhibits and cheap (one euro!) art films at the Filmoteca. The city also has many atmospheric cafés, tapas bars and restaurants, most of which are a short walk (5-10 minutes) from the apartment. Cáceres is also close (2 1/2 to 3 hours) to three wonderful Southern European cities: Madrid, Lisbon and Seville.

FEATURES
The apartment has:
- a comfortable, bright living room, with panoramic views of the medieval city
- a large balcony (fits a small table and 2-3 chairs), with panoramic views of the medieval city and surrounding area
- a main bedroom with a double bed (and views of the medieval city)
- a 2nd bedroom, with one single bed (and views of the medieval city)
- a 3rd bedroom, with two single beds
- a large eat-in kitchen
- a full bathroom, with shower, sink, w.c. and bidet
Note: For short stays, the sofa in the living room can sleep two more people (it functions as a trundle bed, i.e., 2 single beds).

LOCATION
Centrally located, close to (5 minutes on foot) the Plaza Mayor and "monumental" Cáceres, the city's world heritage medieval complex, and also right by the public library, shopping and all the conveniences of the city center. Note also that, although it's right in the center of town, the apartment is on a side street that is very quiet.

Great also as a base for exploring Extremadura, an unspoilt authentic region of Spain that has always been an "insider's" destination, but is now steadily gaining popularity among travelers who want to get off the beaten track and experience the "real" Spain.
Day trips can be done easily to Trujillo (20 minutes), the Roman ruins of Mérida (40 minutes), Los Barruecos and the Vostell Museum in Malpartida de Cáceres (15 minutes), Monfrague National Park (40 minutes), and the Roman bridge in Alcántara (50 minutes). Lesser-known and also lovely towns, such as Brozas, Garrovillas and Montánchez, are also nearby (35 minutes or less). Finally, the Portuguese border and lovely rural region of el Alentejo is just an hour's drive away.

EQUIPPED WITH:
Sheets and towels, a fully-equipped kitchen (including some food staples: coffee, herbal teas, olive oil, vinegar, etc.), washing machine, iron, hairdryer, TV and high-speed internet. It's a 4th-floor walk-up, but the stairs are comfortable! Free parking just outside the building in the parking area reserved for residents.

FYI: I also rent out another flat (on the 3rd floor, just below this flat), which has a lower rental rate. Like the upstairs flat, it is spacious, bright and has a large balcony with great views of the medieval city. The views are not quite as panoramic as the flat in this listing), but it has the advantage of being better insulated against the cold and heat than the top-floor flat. For those interested, you can see it the wimdu listing ("Property Link 2") below.

About Me
I'm half-Spanish, half-American (dad from Spain, mom from USA), so feel I have a foot in both cultures. I teach, translate and write (I'm the author of "Spanish Among Amigos", two books on conversational Spanish). I lived in New York for many years, and moved to Madrid (Spain) in 1992. For the past 10 years I've been living in Cáceres, a small lovely city with a stunning medieval complex, in a little-known and very virgin and beautiful region of Spain (Extremadura). I work at home, so love the idea of "hosting" medium- or long-term guests in the flat next door to mine (and another flat just beneath mine), and, of course, I'd be on hand for whatever you need during your stay.
