Charming and quiet house in the old Albaycín, Granada

Our house is situated on the top of the hill standing the old Moorish quarter of Albaycín and Sacromonte. Placed close to a pine forest, it has unique views over Granada, Sierra Nevada snowed mountains and Albaycín. The neighborhood is quiet and lovely.

The house has a large living room, kitchen, 1 bathroom and 3 double bedrooms. It has 85 square meters. Access by a terrace. Fully equipped, including washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, TV, fireplace, Hi-Fi... It has a community pool (June to September). Cotton sheets and towels. There is air conditioning. During the autumn-winter season we provide firewood for the fireplace. All facilities are included in the price.

Fast Internet access (up to 300mb/sec, optical fiber) and wifi.

It is easily accessible by car. Park safely outside, close to the house. Bus stop (N9) is 50 m.

Walking down the Albaycin old streets from our house you will find lovely Tapas bars, street markets, charming restaurants, surprising musicians, between amazing squares and ancient Arabic houses and monuments.

The neighborhood (Carmenes de San Miguel) is a safe and quiet area, great for children and seniors. There are 3 large garden areas and plenty of space for children to play. In fact, in the afternoons it is plenty of Kids. There are too a little shop, a snack bar, a soccer field and a basketball court.

In the Albayzin nighbourhood there are 5 primary schools, some of them with very good reputation and special adaptation course for foreign children, where our own children are attending. We can offer advice for enrollment in school and other activities. Our family has been involved in a similar "adventure" as we spent nearly the last school year in Galway(Ireland). We have three children and we enrolled them in a school in Galway.

It is near from the Granada university campus (15 minutes walking). Easily accessible by car (8 minutes from the motorway A92). There is also a city bus stop (50 m from the doorstep). You can park safely outside, close to the house.


Foot access to the historical centre of Granada through beautiful pedestrian streets that cross the old wall and the old Moorish quarter (15-20 minutes). Nearby the apartment several mountain trails lead to the Sacromonte Abbey and you can enjoy an unforgettable walking down hills of olives towards the Albaicín. It borders with the nature reserve (Pinar de San Miguel). 10 minutes drive from the Natural reserve of 'Sierra de Huétor': ideal for hiking, biking and climbing. From here balloon trips take off to fly over Granada and the Alhambra, and they can be hired. 40minutes from the ski resort of Sierra Nevada (normally opened from Nov. to Ap.) and 55 minutes from the Mediterranean Coast.

Last Scholar year the house has been rented by a family in their sabbatical time, from Wisconsin (USA), who will be glad in giving you any references you can need about the city, schools, neighborhood, etc

I wanted to share a very upsetting experience I had very recently. I contacted the owner of listing number: 86171 asking the possibility of renting his house for a month sometime between April and May. He sent me an email indicating the dates of availability of his place. Then relying on his word I booked our plane tickets from Istanbul to Madrid and vice versa, which suit the dates of availability. I immediately sent a copy of the plane tickets to him. He wrote back that everything was perfect and sent me a rental contract. There were misprinted names under some terms of the contract. While I was in the process of dealing with these kinds of errors and the issue of transfer of a deposit, a few days later I received an email from him saying exactly that (Our correspondence was in Spanish, the following is English translation) "I just received from Homelidays (page of tourist rental where we have announced our accommodation) a reservation for the days 26-April to May 7 and being free these days in the calendar, that has been confirmed automatically, so, unfortunately, I can not offer you the accommodation in those days. I am really sorry about what happened, I send you a link to a rental page for short stays in which we are also advertised, which works very well and in which you will surely find accommodation for two people on those dates at an appropriate price. www.spotahome.com Search Granada on the main page and enter the dates of your stay. Good luck and I am sorry that you have not been able to process your reservation before."In short, I am very much disappointed by the irresponsible and misleading behavior of the owner that put me in a difficult situation because I made all my plans assuming that he is a trustworthy person.

Response from listing owner: We did not reach a firm agreement. After more than 15 emails for two weeks, change of dates, request an discount on the price that finally we accepted and finally twice this person has refused to send a small reservation deposit, in addition to other problems with the contract. I am very sorry to have had to reject this demand for accommodation, but it is about the need to trust the person to whom the house is rented and we believe that it has not met the minimum requirements to deserve our trust

My family and I rented this house for 8 months and had a great experience. The owners live right above, and are wonderful people who are ready to help with whatever you need. The location is above the city which means everyday you will see wonderful views of the Sierra Nevada, the Alhambra and the old city below you -- probably the best views in the entire city. There is always parking available if you own a car, and you are close to miles and miles of lovely trails through public wooded areas. The neighborhood is safe and there are lots of kids. Our son played soccer with neighbor kids everyday right in front of the house. The house is completely furnished and can sleep up to six if you have visitors: well-furnished kitchen, heaters, lots of towels, blankets, etc. Spanish homes are generally not very warm unless you are willing to spend a lot of money on heat. The wood in this house is free, so we mostly heated just with wood, and when we wanted the place a bit warmer, we used the provided space heaters, thus our electric bill was much lower than if we had been somewhere else. Internet and water are included, whereas in most places they are not. It is about a 15 minute walk to the center of the Albaicin, where there a many small shops and the school and about a 30 minute walk to the center. Here you are away from the steady stream of tourists, but close enough to be there quickly when you want. There is a coffee shop about 5-minutes away. We would rent this place again.
