Casa Verde

Beautiful Casa Verde on Caracol is a 3-story, 2-apartment home with a total of 5 bedrooms and 3 full baths. The price currently listed is for the entire home. You may want to choose from either the apartment on the first floor or the top floor residence and the price would be negotiable. The top two-floor residence has 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a modern kitchen, a large living and dining area, and a 500-sf outdoor living and living space which can be used for an office with stunning views. We have fiber optic high speed internet throughout the house which makes working from home easier. The first-floor apartment has a spacious living room with work station, a long gallery-style balcony, a large full bath, and two bedrooms. There is also a nice kitchen with a breakfast nook. All bedrooms have high quality mattresses and down comforters to ensure your cozy slumber on our cool mountain nights. We have excellent high speed internet speed. There is a 50" TV in the first floor apartment with cable and a 70" TV on the second floor residence. Pets are welcome.

The location of Casa Verde is fabulous - in the Centro but tucked up Callejon Potrero for privacy and tranquility. We are steps from picturesque Potrero, lovely Tecolote, and the Escuela Mexicana, an excellent Spanish Language school; with the Jardin Union, Teatro Juarez of this UNESCO World Heritage town just 5 minutes away. Our home combines beautiful views of El Centro with the convenience of being directly in it, and provides our guests with an enchanting Guanajuato experience. We are only an hour by bus or car from San Miguel de Allende another UNESCO world heritage site. Mexico City is a 4 hour drive and the closest beach is a 6 hour drive (Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo).

PLEASE NOTE! Because much of Guanajuato is accessible ONLY on foot, our property is not recommended for anyone who has difficulty walking or climbing hills or steps. We really are in El Centro, but it is not possible to drive to the door. There are thirty steps to the front door from the "flats" of potrero and the Centro. We are about a 5 minute walk to the University of Guanajuato central campus. The closest parking is 200 yards away in nearby parking garages and is available by the day or month at additional expense. But no car is necessary to live in Guanajuato because everything is so close. You can rent a car if you are interested in taking some day or weekend trips.

We love the warmth and beauty of Guanajuato and its people. The geography, history, rich culture and inhabitants combine to create one of the world's truly special cities. The University of Guanajuato is one of the best universities in Mexico. Obviously, we love Guanajuato and hope you will too. Casa Verde is a wonderful home-base from which to do work from the home and easy access to the University of Guanajuato and other universities in the area. If you’ve been, you know it is not possible to exaggerate Guanajuato's unique charms; if you haven’t been yet, you will surely enjoy getting to know this vibrant, fascinating and relaxing city. We look forward to welcoming you to our spectacular Casa Verde on Callejon de Caracol!

For those interested we have founded a non-profit community center Resplandor International (www.resplandorinternational.org) in a rural area outside of Guanajuato. If interested we can provide opportunities for those wishing to collaborate and support our work there. Prior to COVID we had weekly classes of music, art, computer literacy classes, karate, and sports. We just completed a literacy lab for the community. We also started a program called Earthkeepers (Van Matre & Johnson, 1988) which is an earth education program designed for 10-11 year olds. It is a magical learning adventure that helps participants construct understandings of ecological concepts, develop environmental perceptions, and undertake personal actions to lessen their impact on and increase their contact with the natural world. No need for Spanish language proficiency but an interest in connecting with the local community in a rural area of central Mexico.
