Manchester UK: Large, spacious, unique, beautiful house (late 19th century industrial conversion) in great neighbourhood

This big, beautiful house is a late 19th century industrial building, converted into a light-filled, quiet, comfortable and spacious home, situated in a very nice neighbourhood (the house has been used as a location by the BBC). There are three double bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large airy study with balcony and lots of living space.

The house is ideal for writing, researching or just enjoying! With its large windows, spiral staircase and loft-like space, lined with art, crafts and many, many bookshelves filled with books, it is an inspirational space in which to spend time. We love it! It’s warm and airy, with wifi throughout and a separate laundry room (washer and dryer).

The house is located in a very much desired area (Chorlton) with loads of green space (woods, rivers, parks, trails for walking, running, cycling – we have bicycles available at the house!). Chorlton has many good restaurants, coffee-shops, wine-bars (lots of live music for all tastes), bookshops, gyms and yoga centres, and great organic food shops and farmers’ markets. It is close to the universities, city centre, trains and airport – with bike paths and Metro (tram) links.

Manchester is booming! This historic city (the heart of the Industrial Revolution) is undergoing an arts and cultural, literary, science and research renaissance, under the banner of the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ (see, for example, the Manchester International Festival http://mif.co.uk/), with great libraries such as the historic John Rylands Library (See http://www.library.manchester.ac.uk/rylands/) or the greatly expanded and refurbished Manchester City Library; award-winning concert venues, (see for example, https://www.bridgewater-hall.co.uk/), museums and theatres (see, for example HOME https://homemcr.org/) and galleries (see for example, the Whitworth Art Gallery http://www.whitworth.manchester.ac.uk/), and with arts and music, and cultural (including food!) festivals and events year-round.

The city is within very easy reach of the glorious Peak District, Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Wales. The city has three large universities and a student population of over eighty thousand, led by the prestigious University of Manchester, the largest single-campus university in the UK - see http://www.manchester.ac.uk/.

Manchester is just over two hours by train to London (easy to do as a day trip), and Manchester Airport is an international hub (very easily reached from Chorlton directly by Metro or by taxi).

About Me
I am a semi-retired but still very active scholar (writing/researching/lecturing internationally), specialising in socio- cultural anthropology, with a particular focus on museums internationally. Formerly based at the University of Manchester (UK), I am now emeritus research associate at University College London. I have a high profile and a large following within the museum world in relation to the democratisation of museum practice. My husband Jonathan is a Cambridge (UK) and MIT graduate who works at a senior advisory level (change management) with the UK's National Health Service. We have many interests and travel a great deal. (I am Irish/Canadian and he is British). Our home is a large, beautiful, and completely unique industrial conversion dating from the end of the 19th century. There are three bedrooms (including a large airy study with balcony), and lots of living space. It is an ideal, quiet location for study/writing. The house is situated in a highly-desired part of the city (Chorlton) that is near the universities and the city centre, with easy travel links, also to the airport. The area has lots of greenspace (ideal for walking, running, cycling - we have bikes available!), as well as coffee shops, wine-bars, bookshops, craft shops, and excellent organic food shops. Manchester is undergoing an arts, music and cultural renaissance (see the Manchester International Festival, for example). Manchester is just over two hours by train to London, and is within easy reach of the beautiful Peak District, the Lake District and Wales. We are looking for someone (individual or family) who would enjoy the use of our house with its many books and objets d'arts from all over the world while we are travelling for research or to visit our family and friends.
