One-of-a-kind cave house in Mbabane, Eswatini

Our house in Mbabane, Eswatini is an ancient stone age shelter and ceremonial site that dates back 25,000 years. Formed from a giant granite boulder and blended with contemporary architecture, the space is dramatic, unusual, and deeply peaceful. It's also secluded (with ample parking), fully furnished, and cozy with an equipped kitchen, 8-person dining area, spacious lounge with TV, and 2 bedrooms. With spectacular view of Pine Valley from the doorstep, the property is rural, rustic, green, filled with trees and rock outcroppings. The house has all the basics - 2 bedrooms (lower bedroom with a king bed, upper bedroom with a double bed), open-plan lounge and dining area, and kitchen with fridge, double-burner 5-burner range/oven, all crockery, electric kettle, toaster, and cooking equipment. Heating unit and fans provided. Wireless internet available. Housekeeping included and laundry available on request. Note that while all are welcome, this property is not recommended for children under 5 or anyone with mobility challenges due to the uneven surfaces, stairs, and low-hanging rock formations.

The property is located on a side road at the base of Pine Valley Hill, just a few kilometers from Sibebe Rock and steps from the Mbuluzi River, waterfall, and hiking area, but enclosed, secure, and private. Downtown Mbabane is a 10 minute drive away, where you can find grocery stores, restaurants, pharmacies, etc. Day/weekend trips to Eswatini's game parks are easy, with Kruger Park in South Africa only about two hours away. Johannesburg, South Africa and Maputo, Mozambique are each 3.5 - 4 hour drives from Mbabane.

About Me
As nurse-midwife, writer, and public health professional, I've been fortunate enough to spend my career traveling the world - with extended stints in Malawi, Tanzania, Eswatini, Pakistan, and Myanmar. While working and living in Swaziand (now Eswatini) in 2010-2012, I met my now husband, a Swati chef. Together, we purchased a one of a kind property in Pine Valley, Mbabane. The property is home to an ancient cave house, two smaller (but equally unique) units, loads of tropical fruit trees, native plants, mutli-colored boulders, monkeys, geckos, and three canine friends. We lived there for about five years, lovingly upgrading the living and outdoor spaces, and having our two daughters, before my work with Johns Hopkins University brought our family back to Baltimore in the US. We're still a tribe of travelers, and while we're based in the US for now, we try to get back to the Kingdom at least once a year.
