Elegant home in vibrant neighbourhood, 1km from central Perth, Western Australia

Gorgeous , sun filled Edwardian home situated on the edge of Perth city located in a vibrant multicultural area. The house is directly opposite Hyde Park, one of Perth’s most beautiful parks.

This is a spacious, sunny and elegant, freestanding, renovated home. The front of the house features lovely traditional stained glass windows, French doors, and fireplaces while the rear extension features a modern barrel vaulted living/dining area overlooking a limestone walled courtyard. The house has beautiful jarrah floorboards and tasteful furniture throughout.

There are two large bedrooms, a double study, two living areas, two bathrooms, laundry and a large well equipped kitchen with modern appliances and stainless steel benches. The front veranda faces north and overlooks Hyde Park, while the back courtyard is an attractive entertaining area, including a pizza oven, barbecue, water feature and attractive outdoor furniture.

I am a great lover of art, music & design and the house is a reflection of this interest. The house is fully equipped with all amenities. These include a sound system throughout, two TV/VCR/DVD’s, reverse cycle air-conditioning as well as gas heating, a wood fired Jottel, ceiling fans, networked hi-speed internet, a fax/scanner/printer, expresso machine, bicycle, automatic watering-system, washing machine and monitored security system.

The house is easy walking distance to the city centre as well as to great cafes, restaurants, wonderful food shops, supermarkets, cinemas and theatres. It is walking distance to Curtin Graduate Business School and Royal Perth Hospital, 5 minutes drive to the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (Edith Cowan University, Mt Lawley), 15-20minutes minutes drive to University of Western Australia, Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, King Edward Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and Curtin University. It is also on the 960 bus route that runs between ECU Mt Lawley and Curtin University.

The house is a short cycle to the river and 15 minute drive to ocean beaches. Thirty minutes drive takes you to the historic port of Fremantle or to the vineyards of the Swan Valley. And three hours away is the famous Margaret River Wine region with all that it has to offer.

As frequent extended stay international travelers, our preferred housing option is always Sabbatical Homes. Rarely has a property we visited risen to the level worthy of the time and effort to post a review; however, Jan's home in Perth is the exception. Elegantly and tastefully blending retained historical features with a contemporary addition looking out to a Tuscan-esque enclosed garden, the home is a peaceful and charming oasis. With a well designed, equipped, and stocked kitchen, meal creation and preparation with dining in the garden is a joy. If cooking is not your cup of tea, there are numerous multi-ethnic dining options all within easy walking distance of the centrally located home. The serene and lovely Hyde Park with two lakes, many gorgeous trees, and an interesting varied bird population is across the quiet street and is the perfect spot for early morning or evening strolls. From two dog lovers, we found the independent feline master of the house - Max - to be a pleasure to care for during our visit. Finally, it was extremely easy and pleasant working with Jan for the booking, finalizing arrival arrangements, reviewing a very thorough visitor user's manual, and sharing best spots in and around Perth based on our interests. Together with my wife and our two little children (4 and 2.5 years old) we got the chance to stay at Jan’s beautiful house for 5 months. We instantly fell in love with the beautifully furnished and spacious house. We enjoyed sunny evenings on the terrace using the BBQ or pizza oven. The large kitchen was very well equiped with everything we needed and a lot more. Especially the huge fridge was awesume and also the coffee machine. The cosy cottage in the garden was large enough to accomodate my parents while they came to see us. Our kid’s favourite spot was Hyde Park just across the street where they spent hundreds of hours playing at the aqua park, playground, or just cycling around and chasing ducks. They also enjoyed feeding Max, the cat, or the fish in the pond. In walking distance there are lots of good shops and heaps of tasty restaurants or take aways. CBD is very close as well and can easily be reached by public transports or even on foot. We spent a lot of time at the nearby beaches, which are all accessible within 20-30min. We were happy to rent Jan’s Citroen so that we didn’t have to buy and resell a car. Jan was extremily well organized, neat and provided us everything we needed, including a folder full of important information, on the house and on the surrounding area. Contact with her was always very friendly, uncomplicated and fast. We can highly recommend Jan’s place as an ideal base to discover the vibrant city of Perth and the surrounding area. Jan's home is such a wonderful place in which to live that my wife and I delayed our recent move from Perth to Melbourne just so we could spend a month there while Jan was away travelling. We enjoyed it immensely, and were sad to leave it. It's a beautiful house, with real character, wonderfully decorated, all modern conveniences (incl. gourmet kitchen & multi-room music system), and all perfectly maintained. Furthermore, it's ideally located, opposite a beautiful large park, but with cafes, restaurants and shops within easy and safe walking distance, and even the arts precinct a pleasant walk away.
