Sun-drenched central Sydney apartment with iconic views of Harbour, Opera House, and SH Bridge (inc. utilities)

This is a great New York loft style apartment in arguably the best location for visitors to Sydney: as well as being a beautiful home with sensational views, it is only 150m from Kings Cross train station, meaning you can get almost anywhere in Sydney, fast: 2 minutes to go 1 stop to the CBD, 8 minutes to go 3 stops to Central Station, the main transport hub for the entire state. From Central, it's a 5 minute walk to UTS, or a 10 minute bus ride to the University of Sydney. You can also take the train to Redfern (4 stops, 11 minutes) and walk to U.Syd. from there in around 15 minutes, along with everyone else. Bondi Junction is two stops (6 minutes) on the subway, and from there it's 10 minutes by bus to Bondi Beach, or a pleasant half-hour amble. Nearly all universities and higher education institutions can be reached from here in half an hour or so, except the University of Western Sydney, which is about an hour away.

If you're going anywhere in inner Sydney, you can walk it: 10-15 minutes to the water in three directions (Woolloomooloo Bay, Elizabeth Bay, Rushcutters Bay), or stroll to the city (CBD) via lovely Hyde Park (20 mins), or to the Opera House and Circular Quay (ferry hub) via the waterfront and Royal Botanical Gardens (30 minutes).

The neighbourhood of Kings Cross is also a great place to hang out: it's Australia's original (and only) Bohemian enclave (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kings_Cross,_New_South_Wales#Bohemian_district), and is packed with restaurants and cafes. There is a fabulous farmers market held 300m away every Saturday, two major supermarkets (open daily from 0700 to 2400) only minutes away, and a more gourmet delicatessen-style store (Harris Farm, for fresh produce, fish, meat, baked goods, charcuterie, dairy) about 250m from the building, and open daily from 0700-2200. Also handy is a public library right across the road, with a free full-floor 'technology lounge' with wifi and all sorts of work spaces ( http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/explore/libraries/branches/kings-cross-library).

The apartment is in the venerable 1922 art deco Wintergarden building. It's 50 square metres, and as well as soaring ceilings and beautiful light, has everything you could possibly need: a luxurious spa-style bathroom with deep soaking tub and heated towel rail, washer and dryer, fully equipped Smeg/Bosch kitchen (gas cooking and heating), incredibly comfortable QS latex hypoallergenic bed (from which you gaze over the Opera House, etc), a selection of latex pillows, real linen sheets (and robes), two compact desks, fast wifi, TV, a mono laser printer, ADF scanner, two very comfortable mid-century modern armchairs, a big french door fridge and an 8 seater dining table. Having full-sized facilities in a modest apartment has been achieved by knocking out internal walls to maximise the view: hence 'loft style'. All this, and art, too! There is also a resort-style shared sundeck on the roof - a wonderful place to watch the sunset.

Kings Cross was a red light district, but has gentrified at an alarming rate, and is now better known as a fine dining precinct. That said, it retains some of its raffish charm, as well as a faint hint of seediness. I say this so you'll know what you're in for, but note it is one of the safest places you could possibly stay, because it is well lit, and there are always people around on the street, so no scary late night walks home down dark deserted laneways (as in the suburbs). It is a security building accessed by keyfob, so the lobby is also clean, secure and bright. Lovers of New York: this is the apartment for you (and where I lived last and longest)!

The June and November blocs are for a 4 week minimum, but the apartment is available by arrangement for shorter periods (5 days or more) at other times of year. Also up for swaps, particularly if in Greece, Italy, France, Bali, New York, Australia or New Zealand, but by no means confined to these : )

At $950 per week including utilities, this is pretty cheap for central Sydney with views: this is because it is my home, with my things in it, so not set up for AirBnB style profit-generating rental. Best suited to a single person or couple, and really perfect for a writer (the views and light!). One never feels stuck at home or trapped indoors here.
