Summer in London 5 July-28 August 2020 - Lovely house full of character in trendy Dalston

A much-loved old Victorian house in Dalston, London, available from the 5 July 2020 to the 28 August 2020 - 7 weeks and a bit in total- ideally to a visiting scholar or a couple who are happy to look after our family cat Jack!

The main bedroom upstairs has a double bed, clothes rack and chest of drawers. The studio/office has a desk and an armchair, it is very quiet as it overlooks the garden. The small library room has an extensive collection of mainly philosophy, cultural/technology studies and design books. There is a screen for DVDs (no TV). The kitchen overlooks the garden and has a fridge freezer, washing machine, cooker/oven, toaster, vitamix. There is a dining table with six chairs. The bathroom has a bath tub with shower and toilet. Towels and bedding are provided.

The entire house is available for £250 per week, this is in exchange for cat-sitting (all food for Jack provided). The rent covers all the utilities: wifi, heating, electricity, water, phone (excluding premium or international calls from the landline). A security deposit of £250 is required.

The house overlooks a small green with mature plane trees in the Victorian conservation area of Shacklewell and is a few minutes walk to the hustle and bustle of Dalston main street which is packed with cafes, restaurants, shops, including organic food, vintage and specialist stores, as well as conventional supermarkets. As things are slowly reopening, there is a daily vibrant market in Ridley Road, and a Saturday farmers market nearby. Dalston is a lively neighbourhood (Turkish, Kurdish and Caribbean communities mixed with artists, students, hipsters, bohemians...), with wonderful cultural gems all in walking distance from the house: Rio independent cinema, EartH multi-arts venue, Arcola theatre, Cafe Oto for contemporary new music, the community-run Curve Garden, the Vortex Jazz bar. Just next door you will have a yoga studio, an organic store, a lovely independent café, a wine store, and an artist-run shop.
The area is very well connected by bus and overground rail services with links to the Victoria line underground. You can reach easily by bus Central Saint Martins in Kings Cross, the British Library, UCL, SOAS, LSE, Kings College, as well as Goldsmiths and University of East London by overground.

Stoke Newington is also nearby with specialist shops and small independent boutiques, and more cafés, restaurants and pubs, as well as independent bookstores. Lots of green open spaces: Hackney Downs, Butterfield Green, Abney Park cemetery and Clissold Park. Also Clissold Leisure centre and swimming pool.

About Me
I am Reader at Central Saint Martins where I run the Contextual Studies programme for Product Design and teach a lively cohort of undergraduate students from all over the world - which is equally challenging, humbling and very exciting. I do a lot of research and writing across philosophy (my background) and design theory. I am visiting professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology where I spend 1-2 months per year. My next visit is in December and January and that is why I am looking for someone like-minded to stay over and look after Jack the cat!
