Medieval House in the village of Kalamoti, Chios, Greece

This house is in the village of Kalamoti. This is a small medieval village located in the southern part of Chios, an island east of Athens. The island is not a touristic island (like a lot of the other more well-known places in Greece) and therefore is mostly traditional and unspoiled. The village has all you need, including fresh bread every morning! It is close (4 km) to a fantastic beach (Komi) and easy to reach from Athens, Thessaloniki, other Greek islands and Cesme in Turkey.
Because Kalamoti is a medieval village, the streets inside are narrow and only one street leads through the village. This is therefore a very quiet place with no traffic. Five hundred people live in and around the village and you will probably be one of the few visitors. You will have problems buying postcards, at least a recent one!

The house was built in 1381 and renovated from 1997. It served as the owner's private residence until recently. It is very “rustic” but very comfortable with stone floors, and the original walls, ceilings and door frames have been restored.

About Me
I am a retired Norwegian doctor, specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. After finishing medical school, I spent 30 years altering between academia (as a Research Fellow, a Post-Doc-Fellow, an Associate Professor at the University of Tromsoe and as a Clinical Senior Lecture at the University of Oslo) and clinical work. I received my ph.D (dr.med) at the University of Tromsoe in 1993. Since 2011 I have been living i Australia being a part-time farmer. I have over the last years done volunteer work as a Senior Consultant in Cambodia. 24 years ago I bought and restored a medieval stone house in a quiet village on the island of Chios, Greece. I spent during the years many months there, but since I moved to Australia I visit my island only once or twice a year. If somebody wants a place to reflect or/and write, this is a perfect place. It has everything you need.
